Any Marshall fanatics/lovers/knowing gurus here, who willing to help out?
This is great website about them Most of my info I'm getting there.
I've started with version 7 and already have huge headache. What's the preamp filtering cap is? Some says it was 16+16uF multi section e-cap, other sources says it's 32+32uF
This is what I have already, still a lot of wiring left
First of all i hope it's the right section, it's related to amps and not a stomp box so i thought it would fit here, don't hesitate to relocate the post if not in the right place.
So the only amp i have is a fender tremolux, no headphones plug. i'd like to use headphones so, how do i make a headphone box?
i found this :
which looks simple enough to be tried, but i have a question:
I understand that R1 is there to stimulate the load of the speaker and should be of higher wattage than the amp...
So, I am in the process of building my first tube amp (a Marshall 2061) and before I start soldering anything, I'd like to clear up some things. I have plenty of wire salvaged from an old computer power supply and I read somewhere on the net (unfortunately can't remember where) that it can be used in a tube amp. Is that ok? Also, what power rating should the resistors be? The big ones are described - 10 watts, 5 watts and 2 watts but the rest isnt. is 1/4 watt ok? Cause thats all i can get in...
I have a 1972 Fender Musicmaster bass amp that I use for guitar. Sounds fantastic but it doesn't have reverb or tremolo so I have outboard units for those (Holy Grail and Fulltone Supa Trem).
Would it be worthwhile to add an effects loop to this amp so I can get trem/verb sounds that are more built-in sounding?
If so, how would I do this? It's a very simple circuit. Turret board amp. Schematic attached.
I just scored a massive pile of garbage from my school's Physics Department. I work there and as I was sorting out stuff to go to salvage, I set aside some stuff for myself without really looking at it. Turns out I have an old tube amp that is at least 35 years old. (There was a tag on it that was date July 2, 1976.) I am a novice at the whole soldering bit, as I am currently working on my first mod (Boss DS-1), but I've been playing guitar for about a decade...
Anyone know how to remove these pins/connector from the base of my reverb tank? I have pooped the middle pin out, but can't see what else needs to be done!! There are four holding the base to the tank. Cheers!
hi all,
not sure if it's the right section to post it, but here's my problem. My friend gave me his peavey 6505+112 because the internal fuse melted over and over. so i cheched in it, i tried new power valves, and i checked for damaged resistors that could overdrain current, but i found nothing. I also checked for short circuit, but i found nothing. Just to say the valve heaters still works, and led toon but no sound come off the amp.
Basically the Normal channel from a blackface bassman with the tone stack from a twin in a small compact amp. It still needs some cleanup but it's sounding pretty good right now. This is #1 of 2 for a friend. This one will stay in the US and the other will be wired for EU voltage and live over their for European tours.
I whipped up a vero for the ROG Ruby amp tonight - thought i might give it a go, though it's maybe not as compact as i could be. It sounds pretty nice, and is supposed to go in a cardboard box along with a speaker i salvaged from an old tv :) I built mine with a 2N5457. J201's work fine as well.
So, I'm working on an amp, it's hi-gain single channel simplified SLO, and I was thinking to use shielded wire in few spots. On what parts of the circuity I should focus on? I know input jack wire is highly recommended, but what's about the rest of the circuit? Can I connect the shield simply to chassis star grounding, or should I use specific method?
To be honest I have one, it's the one here . But it's blurry, I can see shit here. Yes I know it's for bass version, main topology is the same, only two caps in tone voicing section are different.
Soon, I will be do my first effort into building an amp. Got an idea or two about what should be my first build. But my question is: In Europe, which are the best sources for parts? I’ve found a lot in the US, but not much around here, so I need your advice!!
I want to know why AC load resistors for interstage loading on tube preamps are so high. I am referring to the AC pads between 12ax7 stages, and disregarding input impedance, knobs, and phase inverters circuitry... asking only about AC pads between stages. They are typically in the handful of hundred kilohms range in high gain amps, 470k in the Marshall series. Along with this value, is needed an equally large series resistor with which to pad the AC signal. Why couldn't these resistors be made...
I know that it's not really amp forum, but since this is the only forum I'm on really I decided to show what I'm working on.
This thing will be purple when finished. I fucking hate purple, but my son is huge fan of cartoon creature named Barney and he decided so. It's his amp, I can't play guitar any longer with my fucked up arm
It's 12000 serial number range 68' era SL plexi. I do stock spec, no mods (perhaps Larry grounding schame), old school parts (pihers, mustards), I have no...
I'm working on my friends bass amp, Roland SB-100.
I haven't worked with solid state amps a lot, only with some PA-amps about 10 years ago.
Basically with tube amps since.
Output transistors were blown, so I need to replace them.
I was thinking also recapping the PSU.
It is 30 years old amp so it might be worth doing.
Main filter caps are 3300uf. Being a bass amp that doesn't seem very high to me.
Will it add some extra punch if I increase the value to 4700uf or even 10000uf?
Will that...
For those of you that dabble in the really big stompboxes we call amps:
I banged up this Lite IIb variant schem incorporating a paralleled triode preamp, ZaphodPhil's huge PA cathode cap trick, and Brownnote Moss' ideas on the dissimalar PA arrangement with an el84 in pp with a 6v6 found here:
Do you see any glaring issues or changes that might make this work better? Looking to build somthing a little different than what I have done so far in the 18 watt realm. BTW 18watt.com is back up...
I figured that i shud build a marshall 18w clone, since my tweed champ turned out superb :) So ive been looking into the ceriatone 18w tmb, it sounds awsome on youtube clips, but the shipping to Norway is insane..
So i can get the transformators from England (matches my voltage)
and the Electronic parts super cheap from musikding (Germany)
Then just put it all into an old radio i got dusting down here :)
But i have some question regarding the layout.
