I've recently noticed that Tim's great site at is coming up as a virus, trojan horse, or other bad things in my browser. So I thought I'd grab all the circuit images and zip them up for safe keeping. I have emailed him in the recent past, but there has been no reply. :hmmm:
Attached is a zip file of ALL of the effects circuits from his site.
Rock on, and may the creative spirit of the Great Escobedo be with you always. :thumbsup
For a long time I've felt guilty that my pedal board didn't include a compressor. Finally, after about a year of breadboarding, I have produced a circuit that can take on a Dynacomp and win , boasting:
Up to five times more headroom than a Dynacomp
Less noise than a Dynacomp
Same available sustain as a Dynacomp
Fewer parts than a Dynacomp
Cheaper than a Dynacomp
Feedforward side chain
Possibility for all five controls
Fits in 1590B
Millennium bypass
This section is devoted to circuit analysis . This means...
requests for schematics or layouts will be moved the the Request section
messages about your sick puppy or your new Android powered phone should go into the FSB Café
debugging questions will be moved to the Workbench
useless post (containing no extra information) may get deleted to preserve the readability of the thread.
you should check whether a thread exists about the unit in question, and add your info in that thread.

Hi folks
I revisited the design of this pedal and got the frequency response characteristic a lot closer with the extra gain stages and filtering compared to my earlier BAJA AFD OVERDRIVE project, so i have called this the MkII

I had this done a while back. This was the mod that was intended to make the Deluxe model sound more like the original Electric Mistress. This was done to my 1990s V4 electric mistress. He removed C3 and C20, and put a .0033uF cap between the points connected with the red line (see attached image). As far as I can tell those were the only changes.
What was the effect? The sweep sounded a bit more airy and whooshy. Kind of neat, if you care.
The schematic for the V5 version (with the wall...
I have been wanting to do this for decades.... Make a pedal that has the Rockman Distortion sound. The chorus and echo would be other pedals.
I would like to collaborate with those willing to on this forum in creating a circuit that can be used in a pedal format.
The compression and fixed EQ sections seem to have the greatest influence on how 'that' sound is produced. The pedal version would have controls for gain, level and perhaps some EQ tweaking control. A foot switch for Edge / Dist...

I have Germanium transistors knocking about as in the picture and some AC128 that I can't find at present. In my hand there 10 red dot, just the 2 white dot and a roll of OA47 diodes maybe 500 or more. Are these transistors NKT275 as they were bought here in GB back in the early 1970s? This site goes on & on about Fuzz Face diodes and about 10 page downs they mention red and white dots on canned transistors.
I might have more somewhere as I have a lot of older components like...
Hi there!
I am new here and I would like to share a noise gate circuit that I have been working on.
One or two years ago I was playing around with the MXR noise gate circuit and I did a lot of trial and error modifications to it.
Then I forgot about it, until a few weeks ago I rediscovered this project and finially finished it.
It is using only cheap and standard components (and not many of them) and it could easily be added to overdrive circuits or similar.
Happy New Year to all the good folks here at freestompboxes.org.
Here is a new design that I have been working on over the last few years - a pedal designed to mimic the performance of a typical negative feedback tube amp power stage driving a Celestion quad box or similar.
The pedal has the negative feedback presence and depth (resonance) controls typical of Soldano, Marshall, Fender, Peavey etc.
Tube power amplifiers have a high output impedance compared to solid state class AB and digital...
Had a quick look inside this one the other evening.
Light wasn't great for photos and I didn't do a full tracing.
Components match VERSION 9 NYC REISSUE BIG MUFF PI . First version with 3003 PCB. NPN transistors
on this page
Most of the component references match up with the Kit Rae schematic too.
Resistors are SMD.
All caps are full size, no SMD caps.
All transistors are full size 2N5088.
Clipping diodes are 1N6263
All pots are B100k.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with this switching board. How can I silence the popping?
bypass.png
It's a board that powers the pedal, switches the LED and switches the effect circuit. When it is off the in tip shorts to the out tip and the effect input is grounded.
I've got a 1M Input impedance/bleed resistor on the input after the IO/IN at the beginning of the circuit. I'm thinking that I should go buffered bypass anyway but in the meanwhile I'd like to figure what is causing this...
What sort of psychotic madman would do this....
I've worked on Mutron Filters over the years, including a month ago but this is insane.
They stuffed it in the control cavity
Topology looks different, three batteries - one for the LED's, two for power or it has a separate power supply box with multi pin cable.
Several intermittent things, looks like a severe pain to work on.
This vintage octave-up/ring modulator showed up on Reverb for just a few days. Here are the seller's pics if anyone wants to trace it. The only adjustments are two trim pots. The instructions are posted on Effects Database and are included here for continuity. Apparently Thurlby is still in business in the UK, as Aim-TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments) which manufactures test equipment and power supplies.
I think we all pretty much know what this is, but as I have one sitting here, I thought I'd take a few shots.

Outside is actually a really nice gold finish. Not at all cream, the way it looks on the website

I've seen this somewhere before... Not great soldering on the wires. I might have to beef that up.

All of the pots that control EQ are 100Kb. I'll get some better pictures up once I get home.
