I've recently noticed that Tim's great site at is coming up as a virus, trojan horse, or other bad things in my browser. So I thought I'd grab all the circuit images and zip them up for safe keeping. I have emailed him in the recent past, but there has been no reply. :hmmm:
Attached is a zip file of ALL of the effects circuits from his site.
Rock on, and may the creative spirit of the Great Escobedo be with you always. :thumbsup
For a long time I've felt guilty that my pedal board didn't include a compressor. Finally, after about a year of breadboarding, I have produced a circuit that can take on a Dynacomp and win , boasting:
Up to five times more headroom than a Dynacomp
Less noise than a Dynacomp
Same available sustain as a Dynacomp
Fewer parts than a Dynacomp
Cheaper than a Dynacomp
Feedforward side chain
Possibility for all five controls
Fits in 1590B
Millennium bypass

requests for schematics or layouts will be moved the the Request section
messages about your sick puppy or your new Android powered phone should go into the FSB Café
debugging questions will be moved to the Workbench
useless post (containing no extra information) may get deleted to preserve the readability of the thread.
you should check whether a thread exists about the unit in question, and add your info in that thread.

Guyatone made a large number of pedals by there's surprisingly few schematics.
I started off looking at the Guyatone PS-001 Distortion but there's not a lot of PCB pics out there.
In the process I found some info on the sister pedal Guyatone PS-005 Overdrive. At times people have tried to guess what this one is as well
I managed to trace the structure of the circuit. It looks like a Boss OD-1 (ish) circuit with a Muff Tone control. Unfortunately no values.

So I found these pictures on the ss/bs blog, located here:
The pictures should give someone a good start, and the other image should give all of the part values. I'm not sure what the changes were between versions. I tried my hand at figuring this out, but didn't make it too far. I figure I'll leave it to someone more experienced. There are some more pictures on the blog that I haven't attached.
Ive been away for a long time but wanting to get back into the pedal scene.
Recently I lost my job and had a legal battle to fight about how that went down.
Now I am looking to take a career break and focus on things that make me happy (or happier)
I have a few ideas floating in my mind, resurrecting my old gigahearts_fx name and doing some pedals that people might even want to buy. hey, we can dream. To that end, I need/want some help with a circuit idea. I think I know the...
I was wondering if there were any sources for reverse engineering pickups? I've seen this page a bunch with it's table of vintage Fender pickup specs: but I was wondering if there were any resources like that for other pickups? I'm aware of this forum, but it's less focused on specs of existing pickups:
Things like, bobbin dimensions, magnet type, coil wire type, number of turns, etc... I basically want a FreeStompBoxes for pickups, but I'll settle for whatever I can get. haha
the original 1176 is crazy expensive these days. i thought it'd be pretty elaborate, but looking at the original 1176 schematic, seems like a couple JFETs and a some BJTs. presumably the pedal removed the 5532 differential input. and the marketing doesn't mention any transformers so i guess they skipped that too. runs on +30V and -10V, nothing too crazy.
they're charging $359 for a pedal clone, and i bet most of that price is just based on the...
If anyone has some good pics of the part values please post them. It would be a big help - thanks!
While I've traced the circuit and I'm confident the circuit topology is correct, there are however many missing values. Some values are uncertain due to poor pics. Others I have outright estimated. That goes for both resistors and caps. I'm pretty sure the electros are correct.
To emphasize the incompleteness of the schematic I've only given it a draft version number of 0.1a.
Here's a link to a dropbox folder with some guts of the Guyatone PS-007 Phaser, including a .svg file with the components values. I hope I did not mess with the color code though...

Tracing ain't done, but it may be very close to Boss PH-1, or some other 4-stage FET phaser. The MA522 part is a low battery detection, see the schem I've made for the Guyatone PS-006 Analog Echo...
So a while back I picked up an Ibanez Gio GSR200 bass off of craigslist for cheap, and though it sounded kinda like crap with everything on it stock, I got infatuated with the onboard preamp it came with, especially after opening it up and seeing that it was a relatively simple circuit. Well, I've been working on tracing it for a while, and after a good amount of trial and error, I finally built a working copy and drawn up a schematic. The circuit is compact and fits comfortably in...
Fast forward to 10:35 for the up close board shots.
Brad The guitologist just got his and takes one apart. Its hybrid smt thru hole, sounds sick as shit.
A500k gain
Bass(booty)c5k
Output 100k
Treble(sizzle)b10k
Opamp ca3240ez(dual bi-mos)
I did spot a sot23 n ch mosfet labeled mv near the clipping switch it also looks to have LEDs in the feedback loop
I put the Super Hard On inside a small 55x55x21 mm box and, not having the C5k, but also for reasons of limited available space, I would like to use one of the two very small pot of a Danelectro Rocky Road, one linear of 80kA and the other log of 80 kB. Which of the two is better to use to convert it to approximately C5k, the linear one or the audio one ? I tried a 5k resistor in parallel to 80 k linear pot between pin 1 and pin 3 but the excursion is not gradual and the gain increases only at...
I made some inroads towards tracing the PS-001 Distortion.
Turns out it is more than an MXR Distortion+ with a Muff tone control. Structurally it's more like a Boss DS-1.
(Given the similarity of the Guyatone PS-005 Overdrive to the Boss OD-1 it's not surprising there is some similarity to the Boss DS-1.)
Unfortunately there's some ambiguity regarding the tone control caps. (The two polyester caps on the middle-edge of the PCB where the wires are).
I’m looking for something like mesa boogie does for their pedals. Maybe use one of the companies that does metal biz cards? The thought is having universal cases for all products and use different metal covers for each product. This way I can gain flexibility by not having dedicated cases with silkscreens. A lot depends on the cost of the plate + case vs case + silkscreen. Also, those that use these, do you use rivets or glue or just count on the switch and pot nuts to secure the plate?
