Does anyone have a schematic for a 15 to 18 volt bipolar power supply? I would prefer one that uses batteries, and not ac voltage. I found RG Keens charge pump converter, but this is 9 volts. Anyway to make this into a higher voltage bipolar circuit?
Hey all,
So working off a nixie SMPS, i've burnt out 4 inductors, mainly from switching it on/off to adjust the circuit it's feeding into. Anyway, i read a short article about using a diode to protect your inductor from burning out. In a nutshell, it gave details about how when you switch it on/off, the current can sort of surge it and burn it out. The article suggested putting a diode like a 1N4004 parallel to the inductor in such a way that when power is flowing INTO the inductor, the...
I'm trying to use THIS x-former for impedance matching a mammoth clone's input (so I can use it w/my active basses) using Jack Orman's diagram as seen below, but using a 5k instead of a 25k trimpot based on the PC10k/10k's impedence.
My question is: Based on THIS INFO , where the hell is the primary on the pinout? (Which solder lugs to I need to connect to for the input, the CT, and the Output? I dunno if I need to use the CT, but since I have the switch I...
I'm reaching the point where it would be good to have my own nice, regulated, multi-unit power supply. I know the Voodoo Labs box is kinda the gold standard supply box, but it can't be THAT difficult to make one. Anyone got suggestions or schematics for such a thing? What do you use?
jsut wondering if theres any dos, donts re: location/placement of power supply jacks (eg the 2.1mm type ones where the power supply plugs into)
ive noticed most pedals which have them are located on the sides moreso than compared to the top?
is it just a space issue (eg with knobs/pots) or is there a reason behind this?
So I finished a Carl Martin Plexitone Clone on vero and had it running perfectly on my bench power supply...sounded great!
It was time get it rehearsal ready.
Rather than build this pedal with the transformer based +/- Regulated supply, I opted for the standard R/C volt divider to generate the rails and Vref.......All was good..... :D
I had a few of those (18 volt-ish) laptop supplies hanging around so I thought I'd arc it up with one of those.
Before I hooked it up to the pedal I measured...
I don't know if it's my fault, if I messed up something when i modded my crybaby.. but:
if I use it with a battery inside works well, if I use it with battery & external power supply it's all ok,
if I use it without a battery, only with a PSU in bypass (buffered, not TB) the signal passes, when I
switch on the effect it mutes...
Anyone know of a decent quality battery snap? The RadioShack ones are tormenting me to no end (breaking off no matter how well I solder em to connections). They easily fail on me and I can really use some advice. I'd hate to order something without hearing suggestions first.
I've acquired an MIJ Boss ACA adapter in a 'bits and pieces' deal (I'm told this is the older type). It's in great condition but I'm not sure what to use it for as it only puts out 100mA. I'm more used to seeing adapters with 300mA or more. What does the average stomp box actually need in terms of mA? And if it works with a pedal and doesn't get hot should I just use it and quit worrying about burning out a pedal?
I told myself I was going to figure this out by myself...but after wiring and rewiring, tracing and re-tracing, soldering and re-soldering i think i need some help. I was careful to follow the layout (both times) i wired the rangemaster from GGG and it does work just fine by itself powered by a 9v adaptor. But when I daisy chain it in with the rest of my pedals it will cut the power to all of them as soon as the both input and output 1/4 cables are connected to it. It will also work by itself...
Hi, I've got a simple question. For some pedals you use a 9V battery to power the unit but on other units there is a real power source that plugs into the box from the exterior. I'm new to pedals in general and would like to know what the different kind of power sources are commonly used. Fro example I've seen some threads like where different power sources (12V, 18V etc) are discussed but I'm not clear on whether this is a matter of power source so some kind of converter from the internal...
A recent quest for power (DC power for a stompbox, that is) led me to all sorts of info on voltage multipliers and I thought I'd share the results here.
Voltage multipliers in general:
Cockroft-Walton on Wikipedia:
Lots of different ways of connecting the parts shown here:
Neat-o little Javascript calculator:
I still don't understand all the subtleties, but I find this stuff fascinating so hopefully others here will also.
Can anyone describe a method for isolating the ground of circuit a (12VDC) from circuit b (9VDC) when they share the same positive voltage source (by means of a 7809 voltage regulator)?
I've been getting a little annoyed with trying to fit 9v batteries into cramped enclosures. Today I was checking out batteries and noticed these neat little 12v batteries. The A sized ones are damn small, and the N sized ones are tiny. I'm really wanting to try these in some new builds. Has anyone else here ever experimented with them? I know they're not able to do alot of current, but there's so many circuits out there that use tiny currents that I think they could be very useful. I like the...
