STEP 1: preparation
Cut out the layout pcb and measure the size of copper board you will need. Cut the copperboard to size.

As requested by some of you members following this etching how-to , here's how to adapt a facial solarium into a UV-light box for your PCB designs...
Just before that, I'll comment my own build now that it's been used. It works like a charm, but the glass warms when you expose many times in a row. Since time is quite crucial while exposing, and considering there is a chemical (or physical) reaction with the resin, then temperature may impact the reproductibility of the...
Hi ya all. Here's a detailed method of etching that I use. In this How To, I'll explain what's going on from a chemistry point of view, and what are the dangers that you might need to protect from. There are different ones already all over the internet, but I hope this one would be clear and helpful to many of us... (edit: you can find some similarities with bajaman's thread here , though the etchant is not the same... )
Would anybody care for a tutorial on how to make PCB's that look like this?
It's really not that hard with a program such as Illustrator or Inkscape. I wouldn't mind making a tutorial if there's enough interest.
btw, that particular PCB is for an ROG Ruby, and it was my first one to do like this. It still needs a little bit of fine tuning, but you get the idea.
@ mods... if there's a better title for the thread, please change it. That's all I could think of to call the style.

Hi, I'm trying to improve my schematics to veroboard at the mo and have been working at the MXR distortion plus as a starter... I breadboarded it and it worked now i've put it onto vero its not. Probing shows the signal is stopping at the end of R4 - and I'm wondering if my layout is bogus. I think i'm making things more complicated than they are in terms of the grounding... please let me know you're thoughts and if you have any tips or notice anything glarringly obvious...
I like the 'all on board approach'...been working on some designs lately that do this (single sided, though).
Regarding the all on board approach.. I'm not sure I agree.
I think you're putting stress on the board fitting switches and jacks to it.. especially if those components ever come loose, but even if they don't the mere act of plugging in and switching will cause mechanical stress.
A friend of mine who's been in the repair industry for around 4 decades says most the repairs he's had...
Staples and other picture paper, PNP, magazine paper, transparancy sheets, cigarette paper and toilet paper.
But it works with the normal paper in your laser printer, if you know the how to use your paper the right side up. This paper has one side that's a bit more shiny than the other. That's the side to print on -- not just with pcb making but always.
I didn't take the smallest layout:
After cleaning pcb with steel wool and light fluid or acetone, put...
I'm kind of new at this and I was wondering, how to you guys look at the schematic and then come up with the layout? I've always had trouble following the schematic, and I can't see how you would be able to transfer the two. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Ok, I'm really new to this, so sorry if this is a stupid question with an obvious answer. With a breadboard, do the resistors and caps and stuff have to be connected in a certain order, or does it just matter that everything is connected? Thanks in advance for any answers. I'm getting really close to breadboarding my first build and I'm really excited about it.
I put together the parts to at least breadboard an Octavia circuit. When I got my Transformer from Mouser it has 3 leads on each side. (42tmo22)
All the schematics I've got show Two connections on one side, and three on the other side. (I am assuming that the Primary side has the P stamped on it)
Do I simply just leave the middle lead on the (assumed) secondary side unconnected to anything?
It's also a good possiblity that I'm transferring the Transformer symbol on the schematic to the...
When ever I se something made on a perf board, the solder side of the board show conections either made with someting that looks like solder tracks or with un insolated wires. What i'd like to know is how do you guys usualy make the tracks when using perf board.
Anyone know of a good tutorial for taking a simple schematic and turning it into board for a pedal? I'm refering to using a perf board etc. to do a simple circuit. It's translating schematic into real life that I need a little help on. Things like - getting all those grounds to the right place and how the connections look in real life when you put them on your own board. I realize there are programs for making a board layout if you are going to etch somethig /etc. That's another topic. First...
hi guys. i've got a question about etching, specifically regarding fumes. i've got no issue turning my kitchen or bathroom into an impromptu science lab so i can etch some pcbs or a enclosure or two but i'm fairly sure that there is going to be some fumes involved... they may be toxic or explosive for all i know but that is of little concern. more importantly is if there is a smell, specifically an unpleasant one? if i lived by myself it wouldn't matter but since i dont i figure it'd be best to...
I get good transfer to copper. Problem is that it is too good. A lot of my runs bleed together. Looking at the ckt on the PnP paper, it looks crisp and clear. Any suggestions how to get it crisp on the copper?
When you guys are designing and building effects what do you prefer SM or trough hole components and why?
What kind of advantages or disadvantages do you see in each one of them.
For the last 8 years every design that I did (nature of my job :D ) I used Sm resistors, caps, ic's and inductors.
Just interested in your opinions.

I don't know if somebody already post this or not, a friend introduced me to a new toner transfer technique using used sticker backing paper (don't know how to call this on proper english). It's the paper used to cover the adhesive part of the sticker, with glossy part on one side. The color is usually yellow or white. The technique itself is identical to all toner transfer technique by printing the layout to the glossy part and then iron the paper to the board. It will take around 3...
I'm trying my hand at etching this week for the first time ever, but am a little worried about how to dispose of the Natrium persulphate once I've done.
Is it ridiculous to think I could flush it down the toilet? Is there anything I can add to it to solidify the solution so I can just throw it away?
Since I have some designs I'm trying to work out, I decided I needed an easy way to prototype them quickly. I plan this out very much, and mostly went by what I could do cheaply.
The only things I didn't have was the cutting board and aluminum sheet. I spent two friggin' hours going around to various thrift stores looking for a dirt cheap cutting board, only to find one at Target for less than $3
The bracket you see is where my coffee can mounted 386 amp with $2 speaker is going to...
I have been building for a while, but have never done it starting from a schematic. I have several schems that I want to build from. But I am clueless on how to go about creating a PCB layout from a schem. I am looking for some tips on where to start.
