Freestompboxes.org started out in 2007 on a free web hosting server promoting phpbb forum software because existing forums censored totally legally created schematics of friendly boutique builders. Our url literally got censored on other forums to prevent links...
The whole point of freestompboxes.org is to provide an online haven for stompbox electronics enthousiasts of all kinds. Our server is hosted in Sweden with a great company that get its business out of a no-nosense policy with regard to DCMA. This is more expensive than an average US lease, but still not much to speak of. When the attachment function was added to the forum, it was about 350MB in database size. Now it's approaching 8 GB...
This is all attachments... say 7GB of it. This is not an...
Just did update the forum to the last version of its software. It was completely uneventful on our side, but if you notice something not right, please let us know.

:arrow: Activation email maybe slow. This happened at a number of occasions, and if I see subscribed user accounts pending activation, I will take up action sending a personal email and putting the account active by hand.

It really takes nothing to set up a forum nowadays...
No money, no knowledge, just a borrowed computer will do. There are more then plenty of them on every subject all over the internet. Probably rightfully so, because newsgroups and forums are the heart of the internet: people from all over the world with the same interest have the opportunity to exchange ideas.
With libraries abound, the internet did not do so much of spreading the canon of official canonical information....
Some months ago I was contacted by Faith Lopez, an employee of groupbuilder.com, about selling freestompboxes.org. I did not believe it at first, so did not even reply to the first emails. They kept coming, until they got a snarky response to the effect of Why would I deal with some dodgy firm that incorporated in Panama? Still they said they were very interested and could formulate an offer on the basis of some statistics, so I sent them some very basic statistics and they came back with an...
As some might have seen (or as I hope: not) there were some fierce AI powered spam attacks that came through. There was a lot, but most of it should be deleted by now. Most of it originated from mailaccounts like targettmail.com or trendesmail.com -- so they were easily caught.
For now, new account require manual activation by me, but I will be checking the board daily at least of the next few weeks.
The mail server is down, and it was a crappy services anyway, so started setting up a new one with mailersend.com
So no notification mails will be sent out for the time being -- the new member activation is done manually for the moment.
Hello, I wanted to know if it's possible to add manually tags like or to my topic title. The simple reason being is that I often post the right in my first message, but I didn't find a way to add the colorful clickable link to the title myself. BBcode doesn't show properly in the title and I even ran out of characters. Usually a moderator or the admin himself swoops in and adds it in little time, but I wanted to save them the work if I could.
It's been long overdue but I've set up the HTTPS configuration, so freestompboxes is now running on a secure server. Still some bugs:
logo is still missing
most of the imagesets seem to have gone missing
some cleaning and updating to be done
we were still loitering on PHPBB version 3.0.10 while version 3.3. has been released recently
Don't hesitate to communicate any problems, but please mention your setup (computer and browser)
Photobucket are in the process of changing the terms and conditions for users and are to start charging for hosting.
I don't know the exact details (I don't have a PB account) but anyone with a PB account should take copies of all of their photos before they disappear (unless they are prepared to pay for hosting).
The Vero layouts posted by user ShortScaleMike have already gone, no doubt many others will follow.

A nice contribution here on Boss CE3 - however the pics are uploaded to Photobucket and show allright. However there is no way of downloading them and uploading them as attachments: you get error message saying something about a possible attack vector.
There was some additional security against spam installed since we had some troubles with our unused wikipage (now abandonned). So I'm thinking this is not photobucket at fault.

The forum software update brought along some new forum features. Some of the them are trivial, others just seem that way... such is the case of the THANKS FOR POST.

just got off the phone with ATT. they claim they didn't, but it was absolutlely them blocking access to FSB.
i won't take any credit for it, but found it insanely interesting that the minute i called to bitch suddenly service was restored.
of course, explaining to them that FSB is an electronics DIY site, and NOT the movie downloading (dmca) site they assumed it was may have helped.
