Debugging 101 General rules and hints to succesfuly bring back that old pedal to life
Hi all, been a few years out of the DIY game and my first foray back into it has gone a mess - any advice appreciated! Had to make a new account as I lost my last!
It's an Opamp Big Muff on vero from gila_crisis, bypassed is fine and clean but when engaged it's just a loud high pitched whine that reacts to all of the pots, no guitar signal it's just the squeal.
Same through DC or battery, in or out the box. I've checked the wiring and double checked for any bridges with a meter and also...
I wanted to be able to use the power plug instead of the battery, but the power jack wasn't working. These have a plug style that looks like a headphone plug. I opened it up, made some very minor changes to the power wiring and now that power jack works.
Fast forward a few months and one day my PDS 1700 makes no sound. I try battery power, and plug power, and I desperately try and remember exactly what I changed with the wiring. I don't remember what I did. I have...
The why isn't important. I got a bass that I'm doing a lot of mods to; one being a quad pickup which allows me to give each string its own output. Because why not. The Neck and Bridge pickups are always wired separately with their own preamp. I built a breakout box and my own cable to carry the signals, that's not the issue I'm having.
So that's 6 sources, with 4 outputs (1,2,3,4). Neck is always wired to Out1, Bridge is always wired to Out2. The quad pickup (E,A,D,G) has each string go to a...
Last night I finished my 2nd project with great hopes, however all I got was a DI sound mixed with a rather hi-freq hiss, and nothing else. I've followed the below project. Also the dist. switch (which is an on/on, 3-pin switch) totally kills the sound when switched on one side.
First I noticed that I misplaced the 560pf on K1/L1 into J1/L1, fixed that, and traced all of the pins one by one and all is fine, no cold solder, jumpers & cuts are just fine. There's no short between...
Thought I'd pick up one of these to see what it's like.
I was hoping I'd be lucky and it would be a take on the Moen Shaky Jimi/Jimi Nova, which are based on the EasyVibe.
Here's links to the Moen Shaky Jimi and Moen Jimi Nova threads.
And I'd like to thank John Hollis for his lovely EasyVibe circuit. :thumbsup
What's inside then? The highlights:
1 x ST 064C
3 x TI TL062C
4 x LED/LDR pairs
It does indeed look to be generally based on the Moen/EasyVibe circuit although I haven't checked the...
I’ve built one of these using the veroboard layout on the dirtbox form and can’t get it to do anything other than squeal. This squeal changes pitch depending on adjustments on the ‘tracking’ knob and ‘swarm’ selector.
Can anyone post voltages for either this pedal or a working clone? My signal is fine going into the 4046 ic but nothing comes out.
Hi All,
I am very unexperienced in modding but, from time to time, I get the opportunity to help friends and get deeper knowledge of this topic.
A friend of mine needed a mod to solve the issue of volume peak with WH10 V3 . This is a well known issue and, even though several people explain that this pedal should not be used on the clean channel of the amp, my friend uses this pedal with different equipment therefore he could not rely on this solution. It is apparently rather common that people...
I just built a Rangemaster clone with point-to-point wiring (dead bug?) and it seems to work fine with a battery, but when I plug in the power supply I get this constant thumping noises. Also the LED doesn’t come on with either the battery or the power supply. I know the LED is alive and the polarity is right because when I attach the battery snap directly to the LED it lights up. Also also, I’m not sure if this is how it’s supposed to be (never have played the original) but when it’s...
Just bought a DIY Landtone Delay pedal last week but can't manage to make it work after double checking and resoldering each component. The effect itself is not being generated when the pedal is activated.
Hey there,
Im new to this board so hello first of all.
A friend brought me a boss ge-7 that he fried by inputting a too high voltage. I can clearly see that q1 is burned. Nothing else looks damaged. Should i replace anything else?
Or jus try q1 and see if that does the job?
Thanks!
Jakob
PS: does anyone have a schematic where i can see the actual part type (type of transistor used as q1)?
Howdy!
My Supa-Puss with not keep time with either the tap tempo or knob. Whatever the setting, it reverts to a rapid blinking/tempo. Changing the power supply does not seem to have an influence on it. Before I send it off to Dunlop or my computer repair guy, I'd like to take a shot at fixing it.
Please point me in the right direction!
Hi forum people, I have a problem a friend told me that if I helped him repair an EHX BASS BALL pedal
The pedal when you connected it turned on the led but not completely, it was very low the current that entered when I checked it I gave with the capacitor c17, it is between the jacks but looking for the scheme to know the values does not come, I just think until the c15 I remove it and turn on the pedalThe pedal when you connected it turned on the led but not completely, the current that...
Hello, I made this circuit and I realized that I have a problem when the audio signal goes through the transistor. I've tried five different 2n5457s and they all have the same problem. Can you help me solve the problem?
Hello nice effects community, I wanted to ask you about this pedal, It is a sc10 of ibanes, The pedal fails when it is on and off, the pedal is heard popping in repetition, Someone who can instruct me to repair it?
It should be noted that it has the currents that mark the schematic and review it and everything But there is no fault
I'm setting up a crybaby with the triple wah mod mentioned above, using the 3 post switch variation he uses. I want to splice in 3 separate LEDs so that a different color turns on depending on which position the switch is in. (ie p1: green, p2: blue, p3: orange) I figured I'd just put the pos of the LEDs in line with a leads coming off the caps and then ground them all. I wired up one to test this and it didn't work. Anyone have some advice on how I'd go about having the three-way...
Dear all,
I've already completed some diy projects but now I'm stuck with a 3in1 rehousing project: I wanted to put a Blend pedal and Minibooster (both DIY) together with a Nux Compressor pedal in one pedal (actually I wouldnt mind to build the compressor with a DIY, but I didnt find a Dyna Comp/Ross PCB that would fit in that tiny space). Finished everything and everything seems to be working except for the power supply situation (I want to use only one 9v plug to power up all the pedals):...
Hello all!
I've finished a DOD 280 compressor clone using this layout: .
I tried a couple of VTLs and LED+LDR combinations and I like almost all due to their different flavors :D
After that, I tried to use a 1.5V/50mA light bulb with a LDR, but it didn't work: the light bulb didn't light at all (but it's working - I've tested before and after).
Maybe the current it's too low for it? I used 2n4401 transistors and LM358.
Maybe I need to use a higher voltage? Looking at the schematic, it's...
I have used several of these in passive bass guitars and as a pedal for driving cable lengths. I have a Spector bass with a passive EMG pickup and a Piezo bridge, also passive. I have successfully done the install and it works fine (I do need to drop down the piezo a bit tho) and THOUGHT I could use a simple .01uF cap for tone roll off. If I do this at the output of each pickup, post the volume control (which at 250k is just fine), I get NO EFFECT. I've tried my cap sub box and nothing seems to...
This post is mostly for documentation purposes and for future reference.
Maybe it can help someone fix their broken Holy Grail.
I recently got a used, older big box Holy Grail (pointer knob, Rev A, non true bypass)
Though advertised as 'in good working order', there was very little reverb.
Only with the reverb knob at around 4 o' clock (close to 100% wet) I could hear a faint reverb signal. At that point the dry signal had lost more than 90% of its volume.
I noticed in some of the older Boss service manual, the input/output signal is mentioned in the unit of dBm . May I know what tool can I use to measure signal in this unit? Is there some sort of dBm meter exists?
Hi, so one of my recent builds is a Ram's Head Big Muff based on the layout on the Tagboardeffects site.
Now it sounds really wonderfull and creamy and all, it's just really low gain compared to sound clips I hear of this pedal.
The voltages on the transistors seem fine (could post them on request), they are 2N5089, as far as I understand the HFE of these transistors can vary between 400-1200 so could this just be a matter of having a 'bad' batch of low HFE ones? I currently don't own a...
Hello everyone. I need your help. I finished this pedal from this schematic, and I have a problem. when i touch the tip of the plug the amp sounds, even when i move the potentiometers everything seems to work, always when i touch the tip. but when i put the plug in the bass, there is no sound. I double checked all the components and everything is fine. The only problem I noticed is that when I plug in the passive/active switch, the pedal doesn't sound at all (even when I touch the tip of the...
I have a unit where the Regen knob is going haywire. No matter how much I turn the Regen, it always product endless repeats. Any idea what could be wrong?
I’m building a fuzz face circuit on my breadboard with two BC108 transistors. I have gone over this thing again and again and have checked all the components and they are fine yet I still get no signal out of it. Can anyone take a look at my work and tel me what I did wrong? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
