Debugging 101 General rules and hints to succesfuly bring back that old pedal to life
First I've got an EHX Black Russian Muff. It seems to somewhat work but you have to crank all knobs to get a decent volume and there is really no fuzz at all.
Second I have a Boss SD1. It was stuck in on position but now doesn't come on and the LED doesn't either.
I've built this SHO clone:
And have another exactly the same ready to box up.
The built one has an almighty pop when the switch is engaged, I'm told that this circuit is particularly prone to this, so I've made up a the AMZ LED pop circuit on vero to try in the next one, hopefully this will work and I'll build one into the finished SHO.
I'm also getting a LOT of hiss though, I understand that this is a high-gain circuit, but is there anything I can do to minimise this?

recently i started to build vox mccoy from scratch, but i have problem with voltage on one of the transistors. Voltage should be something like this:
Q2: 8.7 (C)
3.9 (B)
3.3 (E)
and i have 9.24V on collector,inconstatnt voltage on base (0.00 to 0.32) and 0.00 on emitter. I'm using this schematic I think the problem is in improper bias of the base Q2. Between R22k and C0.22uf voltage seems right (4v) but before R470k it drops to mentioned low value. I'm using BC108b.
Hi guys! I'm from argentina. I built sola sound 3 knob from GGG but i don't know which hfe will have transistor and what is voltage in Q3 Collector? So, i need for help. Pedal is working now.
I'm having trouble with my Dunlop Slash signature CryBaby wah pedal. No problems for three years or so but then it just stopped working. At first the sound was sort of fading out when the effect was engaged (no precise memories of this as it happened a year ago, the pedal has just been gathering dust since), now there's no sound at all when I switch the pedal on. True bypass works fine, the led lamp (the distortion circuit led to be exact) works normally. I've tried it with batteries...
I have a Joyo Digital Delay. When you turn it on it works fine but within a few minutes, the effect stops working. The LED is lit, sound goes through, but there's no delay. It happens with a power supply or with batteries. I've been told the switches aren't too good on these. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions for a fix?
I just finished two pcb, one is a fuzz face with some mods, and the other is a tonebender MKII, for this one I tryed two differents pcb (Pidegeon FX and fuzzcentral), both sound awsome, but the both MKII have the same problem, at least for me, the volume is very low compared with the fuzz face and some other fuzz I have, so the question is, Is there any way to make it louder?. :?
Hi im not new in this forum but this is the first time that i am posting.
I build the philosophers tone pedal and when i use it with distortion I get a whistle from the pedal. I get that even if i dont plug the guitar or the cable in front of it. It just happens and it removes only when i unplug the power jack.
I dont think the noise comes from the power supply cos it didnt happen to any of my other pedals.
Could this come from the ground?(because of different ground voltages with this and...
I've been attempting to add an expression pedal output to adjust the modulation rate of a BBE Mindbender (true vibrato/chorus).I used a switched TRS jack socket between the board and the pot, and unshielded cable. The rate pot is situated at the opposite end of the pedal to the new socket, so the wiring runs the length of the board, and back.

A few days ago based on the veroboard layout by i built this rat clone. At the beginning everything worked fine. Even after putting the whole thing into the enclosure things were pretty well. Not huge amounts of noise apart from what i excepted. The problem started after 20 minutes of playing with the effect on. A strange noise that consisted of random clicks or ticks started making its way out of the pedal. The funny and weird thing (at least to my ears) was that this noise was...
so i downloaded the schematics and breadboarded the Supreaux from ROG. got to work biasing the jfets to read 4.5v at the drain as stated on the schem. first two came out perfect, but the third is too high. at the highest it reads 8.98 and the lowest 7.31. the others go from 8.98 all the way down to 0.20.
ive swapped the trim pots around and tested all of them (all 100k), dismantled and rebuilt the thing twice before giving up and trying the Prof Tweed...
same problem...

I just completed a Maestro Wah Clone that unfortunately doesn't work. Bypass is working and I'm pretty sure I only wired it up wrong.
Now I'm not to sure about my out because it seems to be connected to CW . Would that even work?
Could someone go over my wiring please?

I've done quite a few diy pedals so far, but drives and distortion only, this is why I'm asking for help.
A frind of mine just gave me a danelectro cool cat which has problem with the speed knop. Either min or max the pot doesn't affect the tone.
I measured some strange values on the tl072, but replacing it didn't fix the problem.
Does anyone have a clue?...or at least a schematic..

built this pedal last night. it sounds really great besides the fact that the germanium switch comes with a significant drop in volume. the tone produced by the diodes is spot on as well. gone over all my joints and everything is spiffy. it is build exactly to the specs (with a 1n270 in D1) in the attached layout except for:
1) treble 2 lug feeds the 5.6k resistor (i think it was a typo)
2) Q4 is a 1n914 diode. i had an ac128 in there that i had laying around and it was just awful.
3) germanium...
I am a newbie here and have not worked with schematics for a long time. So i decided to build SHO since schematic looks quite easy. I took veroboard layout and schematic from here
The only difference is I used IRF510 instead of BS170.
I build it and it works ok. But then I decided to measure voltage at the MOSFET and it reads
D to ground- ~7.5V
G to ground - ~0.7V
S to ground- ~1.7V
And it is very strange I know it should be something about D -8V,G-3Vand S-1V respectively. But...
I have an SD1 which I did the Monte Allums mod to (the basic one) which has worked fine for years but now has gone a bit weird.
Works fine when the od is switched out but when it is on the level and tone work but the gain is just fuzz all the way.
Any ideas would be welcome on what maybe to check first, all the mods I did still look okay but I guess the first thing I could do was put back the components I changed maybe.
If not what about a simple project to use the enclosure, jacks etc ?

I built the sho booster used a pic I found in the Internet worked like a charm!! Clean boost perfect
But when I tried to build another one it worked but the pot made scratch noises and the sound coming out was overdriven.
I used the same parts and did everything the same can anyone think of what I could do wrong the second time that could cause this problam?
By the way I tried replacing the pot and stil the same also checked it with multimeter.....
I have a pedalboard with a Boss CS-2 and Arion SCH-1, among others. I have all the pedals plugged into a Musicom EFX MkIII+ looper, so all my pedals stay on (unbypassed) and the Musicom selects which pedals are in the chain. Pedals are powered by a Voodoo Labs PP2+.
When I power up the pedalboard, the SCH-1 and CS-2 are in bypass state, how do I mod the pedals so they power on unbypassed?
Hy guys. I have a problem with Klon Centaur I recently made using madbean instrunctions (sunking ver3).
Problem is that with NO gain settings (gain pot on zero) I still have a bit overdriven tone and not totally clean and sparkling tone. Month ago I made anoher Klon and it didn't have that kind of problem so I am in a big dillema and don't know what to do. I tried changing gain pot because when I measured resistance on first and third lug of gain pot it showed almost 0 resistance (0,1k or...
One of my first pedals and also my favourite through my student days, my Zoom 508, has been somewhat dead for a while now. I love delay, so I did get myself a couple of other cheap pedals and just recently a TC Flashback, but I would love to resurrect (and rehouse) this thing. I'm convinced that the problem is in the power supply and I would love it if someone can simply point me in the right direction.

I've just build a FF clone using the Madbean schematic (Zombii) with one interesting mod and I have a weird loud pop problem.
Yeah it sounds like a first build problem, but really it is not the case :wink:
The main mod I've added is an expression pedal input to control the Stab, it's wired onto a switched jack and a DPDT stop switch. I've wired it in a way that when nothing is plugged in the jack the Stab pot still have control no matter how the stomp status is.

the guy who gave it to me told me that he used a DC transformer, not AC (like the original :applause: ) and then the pedal will not turn on.
I checked with a multimeter that the original transformer is dead and I used one of my own but after a while 'has become hot and is also dead
the pedal has 2 cards and a small transformer right after the AC input (this seems to work, I find the output voltage on the wires 3 to v 30-40) and when I plugged my power...
