Debugging 101 General rules and hints to succesfuly bring back that old pedal to life
Hi everyone, I'm making a static wha pedal and the scheme I found involves the use of a rotary switch which I would like to replace with a simple toggle switch (spdt) on/off/on for space reasons (I want to use a 1590b).
This is how I thought it would work, am I wrong?
In the off position I should have 1nf in the other positions 11nf and 48nf.
i did set up a roadrage circuit on my breadboard and it seems to work fine although the voltages are a little lower as expected. i feed in around 8,74V from the wallwart. after D1 8,44V remain and i get like -8,17V at pin5, after D3 it reads12,62V, after D4 16,09V and 14,8V at the output of the regulator.
so i wanted to feed a little more voltage around 9,6V from another wallwart that gives 12V and grab them from a voltage divider i calculated and did set up aswell. seems to...
Has anybody built the JHS series 3 fuzz from dirtboxlayout
The layout seems consistent with the schematic once flashed on youtube, and that of pedalPCB
I built one and have no output. I then decided to compare voltages with a KiCAD / spice simulation and what I obtain (no output, constant voltage entering the third transistor) is consistent with what I observe.
I am attaching my KiCad model. Can somebody have a look at it?
I just finished up a green russian big muff build, using a layout from Dirtbox Layouts. I used the MOJO Layout that can be seen at the below link (the second layout option on the 30x14 stripboard):
Went to plug it in last night and I'm definitely having some problems!
Bypass signal is fine, but when pedal is engaged, the signal essentially drops to almost nothing. With everything maxed out, I get the faintest of signal through the pedal, but there is definitely an issue.
Hello everybody!
I recently finished soldering a pcb and its been giving me some trouble for about a week. I tried troubleshooting it but at this point I think the problem is deeper than my understanding of electronics.
The circuit is a Darkglass Microtubes B3K, a distortion for bass. Here's a link to the layout:
Instead of the two J201 I have 2n5458 which I think should be an OK replacement, but correct me if I'm wrong.
The problem is that when the pedal is engaged, the distorted tone is...
Hi guys, i have here a musikding Engineering thumbs Compressor kit that is not working!
Schematic:
Guts Shot
Since i’m not the one who mounted the kit, i checked every component polarity etc. resolder a bunch of holes, and identified a wrong transistor in the circuit. It was with a BC337 instead of a BC327.
I changed the transistor, but its somehing else wrong.
I have bypass sound. When its on, seems like there’s no effect applied. Level pot its working , the other ones i can’t notice...
This is a how do I... question, I'm still in the design stage and looking for best practices.
I plan to use an isolated DC/DC converter to get +/- 12V from a +9V input. It will power a stock Maestro PS-1B built on vero, so the current should be under 50 mA per rail. I've selected a TRACO TEC series, the 2-0922 accepts 4.5V to 13V in and provides 83 mA of + and -12V. I'm using an isolated DC/DC converter because they are easily available, but I've not used one before.
Trying to revive this thing. Actually trying to get one out of two going. Recapped the power supply and boards. Also swapped the starter cap for the motor. All electrolytics were reading at least double their proper values. Initially, I had a lot of motor noise mixed into the audio and no echo. Recapping seemed to have resolved those issues.
Problem now is the echo keeps dropping out and I get a lot of static. If I mess with the motor switch I can get the static to stop and eventually get the...
Hi,
I’m having trouble with a pedal where the Gain acts more like a Volume than a Gain. I’m sure you all have dealt with such a problem before but I have quadruple check eked my board and all looks like the circuit diagram. Any thoughts?
I'm trying to build a small amp based on the little gem mkii -- with two LM386 chips bridged and a JFET buffer (see linked pics for original schematic and my version) Only making really two changes:
- I was trying to add an aggressive power filter using a transitor capacitance multiplier (see linked pics for schematic)
- Adding a passive tone knob and volume pot between the buffer and amp chips.
I breadboarded this before going to vero, and it all worked brilliantly. But my...
Was anybody successful building a JJ Rocket Boing clone using pedalPCB sproing PCB? I reflowed all my solders, checked for bridges, switched my IC for different kind of opamps without success.
The output gain is way below unity. When plugging a guitar, I get no signal at all (or so low that I can't amplify enough to distinguish it from the static noise).
With an audio probe, I notice that the signal out of the first opamp (pins 1-2 or IC2.1) in the schematic at is already way below unity. Would...
hey all ..long time no post from me.
I've a TC-Helicon harmony singer that's got (I suspect) dry joints on the AC input socket.
happy to sort out that simple job buuuutt.. disassembly is not so simple. I've removed all screws and the thing (built pretty darn solid) wont come apart (base from upper housing).
anyone know the trick to get these apart?
fwiw, their service site appears to have the odd loophole, so I found the schematics (link below).. if the link gets tightened up I'll post here if...
Hi all, I have a tc electronics t2 (digital reverb). It’s generating its own noise, when I change the reverb settings I can hear that it has an influence on the noise. I have audio traced the signal to the ak4556 ad da ic. The signal gets to there then seems to have the noise on pin 8. I’m wondering if this means the ic has blown? I can’t find schematics unfortunately. Thanks all
Hello I have a very noisy Deluxe Electric Mistress V1
This circuit :
I've modded it to this circuit (Deluxe V2) :
I thought it would help but it didn't.
I did a recap, a good calibration.
I've read a lot of things in this forum and I tried a lot of things. But there is still a lot of noise at the output. I even had a spare SAD1024 hanging around, I've swapped it and it didn't change a thing. I've also replaced the balance 1K trimmer.
Thank you for reading and for helping if you have any...
Hello, I have a Fame CO-10 Punchenizer compressor exactly the same as Akai Professional Analog Custom Shop Compressor. I know that both are clones of other classic compression circuits. I'm wondering if anyone has a schematic, since the pedal doesn't work right now, only in bypass mode, the effect itself doesn't do anything at all, the green LED lights up, but there is no efx!
By the way, it is a pedal that can be found very cheap in any of its secondary brands, and that is very well built with...
I live right next to a radio tower its driving me insane. Pretty much all of my favorite pedals need to be treated. I don't really know why any of this works but it just seems to work on classic fuzz and wah pedal.
first trick:
* 100pf cap from base to ground of any signal transistor seems to quell actual discernable radio station broadcasts
second trick
* 68pf cap from base to collector of any signal transistor seems to nip out the radio white noise (you really start being able to hear the...
Hello. There is a desire to connect Booster in parallel to BD-2 circuit in order to be able to send a clean signal (feedback).
When connecting both pedals to the input and output, only the signal of BD-2 itself is heard, but not Booster, when trying to break BD-2 circuit from the output and solder Booster, everything works fine.
Both schemes work properly separately but not together, what could be the reason?
Does it have something to do with the phase? There is a slight presence of sound,...
unfortunately i have a problem with my aion oceanid build. I built the pedal exactly as described in the documentation except for two capacitors C7 + C18. I substituted these with “Styroflex” capacitors of the same value. (This shouldn`t make any difference?).
The pedal works as it should except for there is amplification with all knobs on zero (so the signal is louder when the pedal is turned on). As far as I can tell all the other functions are working therefore there is an increase...
I wanted to be able to use the power plug instead of the battery, but the power jack wasn't working. These have a plug style that looks like a headphone plug. I opened it up, made some very minor changes to the power wiring and now that power jack works.
Fast forward a few months and one day my PDS 1700 makes no sound. I try battery power, and plug power, and I desperately try and remember exactly what I changed with the wiring. I don't remember what I did. I have...
Hi, not allowed to post to the switching forum so this one seems appropriate I hope.
My Laney VH100R footswitch when plugged into the amp, causes the amp to constantly change between channel A and B. It flips channels a few times a second.
The amp has 4 channels, or 2 channels with switchable gain stages for each, the footswitches left to right are A Drive, B Drive, Reverb and Channel A/B. With LED's coloured green, red, yellow, red.
Connected to amp with 5-pin DIN cable.
Hello
I lent out an ammoon stereo looper (vague clone of the ehx 720) and it came back dead. I plug it in with the power supply in my studio and nothing happens, no leds light, no sign of life. I measure 9v at the power jack, and get similar voltages around the diodes and components in the attached photo. The schottky D2 seems ok : I get 9.12v on one side and 8.76v on the other, a 220R resistance one way and infinite/open the other.
diode D4 next to it reads 10 ohms resistance both ways. Is...
I bought an 1989 MIJ Boos DD3 long chip version that didn´t work. After doing some measuring i recap all electolitycs and the pedal come back to life. But (allways a but) when the pedal is on i only have delay signal on the output. Studying the service manual i notice that Q8 and Q5 switch between on/off for stereo mode when you plug direct out and output at the same time. I don´t understand why Q5 its working like this and i don´t know where to continue lookinf for the fault....
I've recently finished this build with success (confirmed by me also). This one base on solely the schematics which had been shared here -from the 80's. But I'll need to ask a couple of things.
1- Biggest issue is, I have A and B tapered pots. I've tried A1M (only works good in reverse), B1M and B2M. Neither of them has an equal rising response on rate because the circuit itself needs a C1M pot and I can't find any in Turkey. Is it possible to convert any B pot into a C one? I've...
