Debugging 101 General rules and hints to succesfuly bring back that old pedal to life
Hello, I use both Single coil guitars and Humbucker guitars. With humbuckers the radio interference isn't noticable. But when I switch to my strat etc. it is real bad. (mainly with fuzz/distortion circuits)
I'm looking into properly sheilding my single coil guitars, but I was wondering if there is something to tame the radio down in your pedal builds, or do you just try to ignore it?
I really would like a couple of my fuzz style builds if I could just get rid of the radio interference....
I am kind of new to this sort of thing but here is my question: I recently ordered some Texas instrument cv7003 (military version of the oc44) and wanted to change just the fuzz side transistors on my 9-3700 Vox stereo fuzz wah. I wanted to try a germanium transistor for a warm, smoother fuzz tone. My question is how do I bias these two cv7003s? My friend says he can check them for leakage and that sort of thing. I have read a few things about bias control on DIY fuzz pedals but what about...
I picked up a ML-2 Metal Core cheap this morning, but when I got it home, the LED indicator didn't work right. It got brighter when I kicked in the distortion, but only got dimmer when switched out; it didn't ever shut completely off. Ever heard of this before?
I took the pedal apart to see if it was something I could fix and proceeded to shear off the LED when removing the nuts holding the pots onto the casing. DAMNIT! I felt like such an idiot.
I have a TS808 re-issue that will work with a battery but nothing when using an AC adapter. :cry: What should I check first? The diode in the power section? If someone can give me some tips to try I'd appreciate it.
I just completed a build of the GGG EQ and noticed there's a little more hiss when using an AC adaptert rather than powering the pedal with a battery. Is there some kind of value change in the filtering section I can do to compensate for the extra noise? Any help would be appreciated.
Right now it uses a 10K resistor, 10uF capacitor and 1N4005 diode.
I just finished this build (my 3rd) and I am really pleased with it. This is the 69 Boutique variant with PNP transistors. They ship it with Silicon PNP but you can pop germanium PNPs from Small bear or others in. It has 4 pots, volume, bias, contour, and fuzz. The contour doesn't do a whole lot but reduce volume so I dime it. The real control is the bias and fuzz contols. The fuzz increase fuzz (duh) and the bias is like the nasty knob - it increases the top end sizzle and grind like crazy....
I have the starving tube version that is basically a rehoused Tube Driver, not the newer solid-state one. The pedal powers up and signal passes through in bypass, but the footswitch doesn't engage the pedal. From what I understand, it's a momentary switch that operates FET switching. I had a feeling that was the case and then I read through this thread:
Here are my questions:
- Could I just replace the existing switch with another momentary or are there specifications I should try to find...
i build a Tonebender 3Knob Circuit (FuzzCentral)..
For lack of Ge Trannies i build it with Transistor Sockets
and used PNP Silicon for Q1 and Q2
At Q3 i used an AC188k
running it at full throttel it sounds pretty good.. fine Distortion..
but... i cant drive it at lower gain or turning the Guitar Volume down..
when the Tone dies away at one point the Distortion crackles away and the Tonebender mutes the sound (like a noisegate)...
Playing at lower Gain or with Guitar Volume down it...
ok, today i finished all the wiring and soldering on my fuzz factory.
bypass = OK
LED = OK
circuit... not 100% OK
the fuzz face settings give me the best results, but where-ever the pots are, the effect doesn't get through on the highest strings, there is more popping than sound when i play single notes and it always sounds like i have broken speakers, every sounds gets cut of very fast.
and about all the pots have a crackle... which, to my knowledge is NOT OK with a fuzz factory...
Hi guys!Please help me to cancel noise click that easy vibe has even when bypassed!I've tried a 100ohm series resistor with a 1000 microfarad electolytic cap at the input of the power supply but without luck!THANKS
(@ Modman, yes! I've read your PM and will give you a call later)
A while ago someone put my attention to a small tweak for an Ibanez DL-5 delay by doubling the delaytime by doubling the RAM. Beautiful in it's simplicity and therefore, without a hurry, something I had to try.... as soon as I could lay my hands on a cheap DL-5. At one point someone had laid his cigarette on top of the pedal leaving a nice burn mark.
That happened a little over a week ago when I BIN-ned myself an affordable...
i got a question about the tremulus lune.
if i don't build the LFO speed led can i leave those componets away? (red circle) or should i only put a 2k resistor going to ground?
