Debugging 101 General rules and hints to succesfuly bring back that old pedal to life
I've read the JF-02 is similar to the FT OCD. I would like to know if anyone has worked out any mods for this circuit? Is the schematic exactly the same as the OCD? The reason I would like to mod this is that I find the sound to be very brittle and thin, not in a way that sounds like a malfunctioning circuit, but just not my favorite type of distortion. I've heard tube screamers and I like them and I dig SD-1 pedals if that helps. I dont want this thing to sound exactly like that but if the...
So, I posted in the members corner that I've successfully breadboarded the Fuzz Central Axis Face. Everything worked and sounded great. I recently transferred it to Perfboard but am having issues now. Here is the schematic I'm referencing:
For some reason, I can't get my Q2 to bias. When I adjust the 10k trimmer, the voltage on the collector of Q2 changes from 9.67 to 9.82 - that is literally the entire range of the trimmer. Obviously, when I breadboarded the circuit, there was a much...
Hi guys, im currently. Uilding the deifet deizel sim over at tagboards, and there is a call for a 470uf capacitor. Sadly i onky have a 470uf 16v cap. Now with the charge pump am i going to be ok, as its a 9v input with the 7660s chip makkng a chargepump.
I may have to socket and experiment with different values as i think i have lower uf capacitance and string x2 220uf in parallel or a 220uf and a 330uf.
Many thanks guys
i built a circuit for my bro as a simple overdrive/boost. he loves it. but he lives on top of a mountain and is getting bombarded by rfi noise and almost motorboating sounds. it doesn't happen here at all, it's quiet but up there it's like REALLY bad.
so i had already added more power supply filtering etc.. which is probably redundant, but it got me wondering and i need a couple questions answered.
does low and high pass filtering in the power supply itself have an...
I'm not really into debugging guitar pedals but i'd like to improve my skills so please be patience with me :)
I have an old EHX delay pedal that has a strange 5 Khz noise when the Blend knob is turned up. If i turn down that know the signal is getting throug the unit, but still there a small amount of hiss and noise beside the dry guitar/sine signal. By turning up the blend knob you'll increase the noise and it's way more louder then a guitar signal.
hi i built a maxon OD808 1979 clone and it has a hissing noise problem especially when the volume is cranked at full. i made this through matsumin's layout. how do i eliminate the hiss and what could be the cause? thank you!
I am having a very weird problem with my Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress (vintage SAD1024 version)
The pedal is not working properly, only the clean guitar signal can be heard, with a slight distortion and lfo ticking in the background. If i disconnect the input jack and reconnect it (this activates the power supply from the batteries) the effect sound briefly comes on, but fades away after a few seconds
The strange thing is, if I connect the pedal to a signal generator, it...
I just picked up a reissue of the Sam Ash Fuzz Box. They are selling out the last of the stock cheap. I liked it, but wanted a little more low end, so I upped the input cap value to .1mf. Sounded great, but after playing a while I noticed it would make a tick tick tick sound about a second apart when I wasn't playing. It may have been that way from the start, but I don't know. I don't see how changing the cap would do this. Could it be a bad transistor? I have loads of them to replace them with...
First post here! I have plenty of experience with soldering and I can build off of layouts, but I'm still fairly green with the diy audio circuit, 3PDT switching, signal path, etc. So I get a bit confused when trying to mod/alter even a simple layout like this. I'm trying to put together a true bypass feedback looper pedal and add a few features. I would like to add in a momentary switch (normally closed/off) for the feedback section, where the feedback is switched on when pressed....
So, I decided to build a Colorosund Overdriver but I am having some problems.
I am not getting that huge boost in volume that these boxes are known for, no Fuzz on 10 and the tonestack is very subtle. Apart from these problems the box sounds great (ahaha) tone wise.
Hi, in trying to put a true-bypass system in a OC3 I just connected the jacks and the FX input/output wires to a 3PDT.
This pedal has a knob selector for Drive/Oct2/Poly
when it is on Oct2/Poly position, sound is very low; I can hear the octave but signal but is vary low. When it is on Drive signal volume is 1:1 with dry one (so drive position is ok...)
I can't find any schematic on web for checking.
Anyone has the circuit diagram/schematic ?
I'm in the process of rehousing a Danelectro Rocky Road and have run into an issue. i've been trying to bugfix this on and off for a few weeks thinking that taking a break and coming back with a fresh set of eyes might help but i'm still stuck.
The problem is with the ramp footswitch - it seems to be non-functional.
I replaced the original momentary switches with more robust momentary switches. thinking that it was the switch i've tried replacing the switch but i get the same...
This is my first project ever and, of course, I managed to mess it up. I expected this. I also expect that I will need a new switch and switch pcb, unfortunately:
In order to continue troubleshooting I'm assuming I need to collect the values for the components before asking for help?
Greetings,
I am in the process of building RG Keen's Neutron circuit:
I'm so confused by the toggle switch wiring! For some reason, the diagram is not clicking in my brain.
If anyone could point me in the direction of a gut shot showing the off board wiring, I'd be grateful.
I have an original Hotfoot and it's my favorite OD
It has developed a loud POP when activated, but only the first time, then it's fine as long as it's left on , but if left off for 15 minutes or so, it will POP again when turned on.
It's NOT the switch, which are known to be wonky anyway, because I'm leaving the onboard switch always on and bringing it in/out of circuit via a looper.
I suspect a cap is leaking, but not sure where the most likely culprit is....I don't want to just go in and...
I have a Boss EH-2 which is permanently switched on. I suspected the problem was with the switch, but I checked it with the continuity tester on my multimeter and it seems fine (contact is made when the switch is engaged, broken when the switch is released). I also tried jumping the two contacts on the switch, but this had no effect.
Any ideas what the problem can be? Can I test the components in the switching circuit? :hmmm:
This is one of my first vero attempts but currently I'm unable to find my issue.
I've tried to build a Fulltone OCD V3 clone following this schema :
However while activating the effect the sound drops.
If I crank my amp at some point I hear that a very faint signal is coming though.. Clean however. But I need to get is past 8 on the volume and sit next to the amp.
I check the components and cuts of the vero but was unable to find anything.
Wondering if you could perhaps assist me with an issue I am having with my 90s era Chandler Distributed, BK Butler Designed Tube Driver...
This type:
I have successfully removed the internal transformer and the pedal is powered by my Voodoolab AC Power Supply.
If I place the pedal before a Sovtek Big Muff pedal, set to the DG PULSE BOOST settings, I get a low frequency hum, that doesn't sound like 60hz or earth loop.
I have changed the large 2200uF 25vDC filter cap however the...
Hello Freestompboxes peeps. Long time, no see!
Here's my problem:
I purchased one of the newer Proco Rat pedals a few years ago. Swapped out the opamp for the lm308. Replaced the 30 pf compensation cap with a mylar, and switched to a green LED (because it looks cooler. sue me). During all of this, I ended up damaging the 100 pf cap across the drive pot, so I drilled out the pcb and placed a much larger (physically) 100 pf cap in its place. Everything seemed to work fine for a while. Then, it...
Just fixed an Ibanez GE-10 equalizer, that was having a very low volume, by replacing the two 10uF electrolytic caps in the audio path because they dried out: C2, C6.
For good measure the other electrolytic caps for the power/bias I replaced as well: C8, C31, C32, C29 (100uF), C30 (47uF).
These are almost all located between the jacks where the input/output/switching section is, except C8 and C31.
I'm new to the forum and looking forward to participate!
I just started with diy guitar pedal building (and electronics as well :-) ) and decided to build a tonebender MK1 as a first one.
So far it's been a great learning experience. :-)
I've got the gary hurst mk1 schematics with some modifications on my breadboard for the moment.
At this stage I can make it sound pretty good and by playing with the components I can alter the behaviour in various ways.
I haven't decided yet upon...
