Debugging 101 General rules and hints to succesfuly bring back that old pedal to life
First post. Was hoping to get some guidance on the Danelectro Cool Cat Vibe. I rehoused the pedal and did all the usual mods (volume pot, fix the delay, tweak the bias pot), as well as work on the LDR's a bit. Specifically, shrouding two of the LDR's with small cut-offs of shrink-wrap tubing to block stray sideways light to tweak the phase shape a bit (I ran it against the Chicken Salad to try and match the phase shapes as best I could, and I think it's pretty close now). I'm still a...
this is my first question in this forum but I've been reading a lot. Really great community here.
Here is my question. I am currently doing my second little project. Here is my beginner tutorial that I'm following:
I did breadboard the basic version of this fuzz now, but I am getting a lot of white noise. When I touch the diode and really cover it up between my fingers between the transistors base and collector, the noise goes away and the sound amount increases substantially....
I've been trying to bread board an Analog Delay (using this as a guide). The circuit works fine through all the stages, but when I test the signal before going into the expandor, it works beautifully, but after going through the expandor, the signal is so weak that I need to put my amp at full volume just to barely hear anything. It also seems that the signal is losing the delay it has before going into the expandor stage. I have made no alterations to the circuit I linked to, except I'm using...
I'm sorry that I create this topic here, but to create the FAQ does not work
I want to try out some of the effects of JHS, Wampler, Catelinbread and other amp in a box builders.
But I ran into a problem in my country there is a great deficiency of the popular in such schemes transistors, especially J201 and 2N5457, the next replacement for the second 2N5952 and 2N5485 as Has no in TO92 housings can I find these transistors in smd packages, but have no experience soldering of small components....
The pedal does not work 99% of the time, when bypassed it is OK when engaged it clips a small part of the lower part of the input (adds distortion) and the potentiometer that sets reverb length acts as a volume. At times when the pedal works it draws about 100mA from my 9V source, when it fails it draws about 60mA so something is happening and I am not sure if is thermal problem or something else. The switching regulator is fine, puts out 3.3V of clean voltage and these currents are below it's...
The problem, quite simply, is that the relay does not switch. The flip flop works because the LED goes on and off. When switching there is a pulse of 0.2V but this isn't enough to switch the relay.
Does anyone have any experience of this schematic or tips?
Having trouble with an EQD Tentacle (schematic: I built this weekend. I'm getting sounds, hearing a slight octave up effect, but getting a lot of gating on the effect as well. There's almost no sustain and it's not very clean sounding (at least not as clean as video demos I've seen for this effect).
I tried biasing the first two transistors, ended up slightly tweaking the resistor values there (10k-->12k, 18k-->20k), but still getting some gating and not as pronounced an effect as...
I had wanted to get into the hobby of figuring out how pedals work since I use them all the time. I decided to start with what seemed like a relatively easy build, and after doing research I found the schematics for Rugeb's modified Em Drive with a tone knob. I tried to put the schematic on veroboard but as it was my first time I am almost sure this is where I went wrong. I hooked the pedal all up as best as I could and when I plugged it in to my board all seemed well. In bypass my...
I came today to you with big need to solve a problem with popping circuit.
There is one polish website/shop which sales DIY PCBs. I dediced to mod splitter board to use together with ABY switch routing.
Of course splitter circuit wasn't designed for adding footswithes, but I figured out to put switches routing between 1st lug of one of TL072 and later route signal to each channels before C4 and C5 caps. All works as it should, but as you might expect there is this nasty popping...
I left a delay pedal on overnight with cables plugged in. The next morning the op amp was bad. Could it have overheated with an idle guitar? Doesn't seem likely to me but I'm not an expert on op amp heat generation.
Is it risky to leave pedals on like that? You're powering an LED and gaining up some line noise. Perhaps it was just time for this op amp to go to a better place.
I'm not advocating leaving pedals on all the time, just curious as to how big of a deal it is.
I bought a non working sans amp gt2 got a good deal on it. I was hoping to debug it but I can't find anything wrong nothing looks burnt or anything it looks brand new. I was wondering if anybody knows what the flat looking black box on the circuit board is.
Problem experienced
1. A lot of distortion from circuit. Redused slightly by adjusting c2. lipping pot.
2. Heavy gating effect. No signal comes through unless the guitar is played vigorously. Notes die out very suddenly. Lighter playing can not be heard

mold 1.jpeg Someone bought me one of these. They had tried to wire in a new switch (don't know why), but had done it wrong. I looked everywhere for a picture of the guts of a Version 2 Mold Spore, but can find nothing. Even had some local musicians bring in their Mold Spores, but these were all Version 1 pedals and the wiring is completely different. The only pictures I can find online are of V1 pedals. The V1 has PCB mounted input and output jacks, and has two DPDT switches. The V2 has...
Just finished building the Triple Wreck (layout from effectslayout blog). The effect works great, sounds perfect. But when I hit the bypass footswitch, there is a loud squeal as the effect goes off. Furthermore, if i press down the footswitch partly (not quite enough to disengage the effect) the squeal will last as long as the footswitch is partially down.
I'm assuming I have a bad 3pdt, but has anyone else experienced something like this?
Have this on my bench. Arrived with no input cable, no switch and severely damaged battery holder. The board and its connects to the pots and output jack were intact. I put in a Carling SPDT switch and an input cable. Bypass signal is fine, but the effect output is extremely weak (battery is fine) and there seems almost no fuzz effect present. I measured the voltages at the transistors and those are listed. Also include a picture or two of the guts. Any help would be appreciated. I have read...
Hope someone can help.
I've built up a Triple Wreck clone, the pedalparts Wrecktifier
For the boost section I opted for the original boost as I liked the OD>fuzz sound in demos I'd seen. The pedal, without the boost engaged, sounds great, however, when I engage the boost section it sounds very wrong; loud but insanely woolly with no mid-range or high end at all until the very end of the pots rotation where it goes into fizzle.
I've found some voltages online from another build that suggests...
hi, I've finished my Sansamp GT2 from Tonepad, It works fine, but the Volume knob is too sensitive, is so loud that I can't move it from 8 o'clock. When i turn slightly the knob it turns the volume extremely high which makes it really difficult to adjust the volume.
I wondered if this is normal, has this happened to those who have built it ?, or is there something wrong with mine. If so, how can I fix this?
I'm using IC's NE5532, the pots are 100k Lin., transistor 2N3904
Hello, I'm working on a Helios RAT, nearly to spec. I'm trying to get it to run and, testing it with an audio probe, can't get past C2 per schematic .
My readouts are currently as such:
1: 6.74
2: <4 (draining)
3: 4.02
4: 0
5: 0.18
6: 3.3 (drains)
7: 8.9
8: 7.9
Any idea why 2 pins would be draining? As I understand on the LM308 these are the negative input and the output.
I have a cheap delay pedal someone has already done modifications to. While the switch turns on the LED, it doesn't seem to affect the signal. I pulled all the transistors and diodes and they checked out OK based on the diode function of my multi-meter. I also checked all the ribbon cable connections (it's soldered in). I then swapped out the socketed TL072 with no affect. I'm still in way over my head on understanding circuits so I then tried the shot gun theory and replaced the MC74HC02AN NOR...
I was wanting some help with a fuzz pedal kit I recently bought on ebay. I'm relatively new to electronics and I'm no genius in this area, but I've been really frustrated for the past few days. I built this circuitboard exactly as I was instructed, yet it doesn't work and I can't figure out why.
The guy never send me a circuit diagram, but instead, more of a literal interpretation of what it would look like. Here it is -
I'm wondering if anyone has one of these laying around that they could take some pics of (front and back of pot pcb) so I could fab something up and at least see if the pedal fires up.
I have a Visual Sound Garagetone Tremolo which a developed a loud hiss/white noise issue when its bypassed. I tried it with a adaptor, battery & a iso psu. With the battery the hiss level is slightly less but then I can hear it pulsating a little in the background if the depth is set high, again in bypass mode. Also sometimes there is a static/frying bacon sound happening randomly. I have been using it after a joyo sound pedal & plugging into the CD/Line Input of my practice amp at...
Hi guys Have a wonderfull AD999 delay
It has very likely had 12v on the powerinput. It works, but repeats are very distorted
I cant rellay find a schematic anywhere on this. Its made with 8 MC4107d 3 MC4108d(clockdriver i think) and one comp NE sa571
any ideas or hints are very welcome
calibration procedure anyone ??? a hit load of pots in this.... i know the ones at the BDD chips are bias and balance, but the rest ???
Not that i think these are the problem..... im guessing a powersupply...
