This sounds like a very nice big muff pi. This is a good pedal!
I do not see anything here to change my mind.
I hope these pictures show that this is a very well constructed pedal and impressive ergonomics. Very well done!
Finally a circuit I can see. Enjoy.
All the poyfilm caps are marked .01 k 100
q1-q4 are 2n5088.
The diode on the trace side is 1n5399.
q5 is a c1815 audio frequency amplifier , (also marked gr3331)
The one electrolytic cap is 100uf.

just a tip try using the macro function on your camera for your pics. Keeps the pics nice and clear for close ups on boards. I notice a lot of guys don't use it. It is for close ups. Keep up the good work. Cheers
What's the best thing about fat chicks and scooters? There both fun to ride around until your mates find out!

I will try to take some macro pics this weekend. It really is a nice pedal.pedalgrinder wrote:just a tip try using the macro function on your camera for your pics. So is this thing pretty similar to a Big Muff?

Yeah. ram's head I think.
I thought I posted new pics. I will get some or find the old ones.

Wow just got this in the mail and it's great. Really smooth and liquidy - like mid-70s Gilmour in a box. It does remind me a bit of my old Sovtek Green Russian Muff from the mid 90s.
This unit sounded too hot for my ears. The emiter resistors are just 100 ohm,
instead of 150 ohm in a regular Muff. Too small i think.
There is a possibility to make the whole circuit sound less noisy.
The sustain pot is grounded with some 1k resistor. I put some 1k resistor parallel.
now the sustain pot is grounded with only 500 ohm.

sounds kinda classy according to this demo. i usually find muffs too much vaseline and not enough sand to my taste, but this cuts through gritty good.
but not on ebay uk, amazon uk, gak uk, dv247 uk, thomann uk... available as import from us, aus, etc. a funny way to do business?
i know dave and gideon have completely alienated the uk in europe with their willy-waving big-talk but i didn't think we'd been completely financially ostracised yet?

I finally got round to doing a trace of the board

So that's it? 100k instead of 39k off tone lug 3 to ground? Bit less midscoop?

Now take out the transistors and measure them for hfe and parasitic C and we're at the core
Or consider the demo gear
Sounds good though, another one on the list...

I'm using capacitors to replace my guitar effects and give more clarity to the sound.

They're unlikely to be hand picked for gain. The company that makes them in China quoted me $10 a piece for populated Muff boards if I buy at least 100 (including soldered pots like this) for a little sideline I was considering a couple of years ago. With those sort of margins they won't be sorting through them.

I've been asked much less likely things (often), so sometimes it's hard to pick up on sarcasm with the written word. Even smilies don't give a clue any more when everyone uses them for everything ← ← (see)

The layout needed a small correction and has been shifted about a bit, so if you want to build from the layout get the latest version now

many thanks indeed, mark. classy.IvIark wrote:I finally got round to doing a trace of the board...
am thinking i might start my big muff adventure by modding out into freakout territory from this pedal as a base, rather than from a nyc standard, as it's so much 'there' already. great tones from a cheapy clone, and now you've given me a vero option if i feel up to starting from nothing. it's good here.
