"It MUST be able to run on batteries"
Those AA's must ensure that the pedal lies firmly on the floor, considering the weight.
And whats the deal with the standby switch?

Nice pics, thank you! How does it sound?

Yes it eats batteries very quickly, standby switch power on the device and footswitch turn on the effect.
The device itself made as a metal tank and looks solid except the plastic back cover but this does not prevent to use the pedal in pedalboard.
The pedal is very lightweight w/o batteries. But when you want to remove it from pedalboard the battery cover often opens itself because of the weak latch.
Delay is made on CoolAudio chips 3 BBD, driver, 2 compander. Switch circuit made on Omron relay.
It sound very nice, noiselessly, smooth analog delay with addition of slight chorus effect, depends on modulation regulator.
Max feedback turn it to oscillate. 3 position delay switch, short delay approximately 300 ms delay, long up to 800 ms delay, and in both position short and long delay is working together.
In general good delay, well-made device, not easy repairable.
