Fred Briggs - '64 - Vintage Vox Tones :)

Here's another one for you, it's a tricked out and modded version of the Electro-Harmonix LPB-1 Booster. The inspiration for this one comes from the Lovepedal Englishman which does sound remarkably nice - well, I think this sounds that little bit extra. for the transistor you can use a standard 2N5088, the SB340 can be subbed for a BAT 46 without to much change in tone.
If you're after those vintage vox tones with that great treble laden overdrive and note attack sag give this a go...
This is so vintage I even made the schematic look vintage

Is that Normal, Bass, Treble, or Top Boost version?

The Vox AC30 I played was a normal version, no top boost on it and (as far as I was aware) no EF86 input stage. This circuit has a little nod to top boost models though with the mid filter at the end and the 82n cap which helps boost mids in the gain stage which bring out some high mid clipping and leave the bass nice and rich. I've just built up a prototype unit that I'll be taking round to a few different amps to test out. Sounds really nice though....

I wish I could have got some piccys As far as I know it was going through the shop at Hot Rox in Nottingham for a service. In fact they've got a '63 model in at the moment: http://www.hotroxuk.com/amplifiers-and- ... -1963.htmlsinner wrote:I was only joking I'm sure it rocks, you're smart guy.

Cool circuit! I like simple overdrives like these! The vintagized schemo is top notch!

Hey Ronald! Glad you like it, I've got two more simple boost/overdrive circuits to post up now. Just taking some pictures now - one is a Marshallesque booster/overdrive and the other is a Fender voiced overdrive...RonaldB wrote:Thanks Briggs,
Build it and it sounds really great.
I really must make more of these simpel circuits they sound so good.
I also cleans up really nice with the guitar volume.

That sounds great, I will build these as well.briggs wrote:Hey Ronald! Glad you like it, I've got two more simple boost/overdrive circuits to post up now. Here they are - the 'Face Fender: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=16321
and the Marshallesque "E11even": viewtopic.php?f=13&t=16320
Hopefully you'll find them just as nice. They all stack up really nicely as well giving you an absolute goldmine of tones from light overdrive to full on mush out fuzz when you run them all at full bore Feedback time!

Hi Fred, thanks for drawing.... your are the circuits Matisse !!
In order to increase the headroom... this vox can be powered up to 18V as in fender face (using 1044) with no changes
or by doing that I need to change some caps / resistors for having same response ?
thanks in advance.
