Great work, Bajaman. Sorry I took the liberty to make a simplified but functionally equivalent version of your circuit. Now it requires a single quad opamp and should be more DIY-friendly.

Let me know if it is OK with you, or if I should take it down.

EDIT 1: The schem above is missing a resistor and has a wrong feedback connection, it won't work as shown (23-AUG-07)

EDIT 2: This is the corrected schem http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4lhb18z
Changes highlighted in red. (23-AUG-07)

EDIT 3: Even though this scheme might be a bit noisier due to the usage of 1M resistors the keep input impedance high, it uses 4 opamps (a quad) instead of seven, thus consuming less battery power. Eventually metal film resistors could be used for the 1M's for optimum noise performance.

Hi Estragon
It may be a bit noisy with the 1M resistors around the first stage. No - I don't mind you posting, but I was staying as close to the BBE as possible.
For what it is worth, I would keep the precision 4v5 reference as well - far better stability of the centre rail.
The additional cost of two more opamps is not that difficult, and one has only to etch the board, drill the holes and bingo - BBE
Anyway - have fun
bajaman

Watch out! Two discrepancies found:

1) There is a 22k resistor missing in your schem and the first one I redrew based on yours. This resistor goes from the output of the third opamp in the state variable filter to the (-) input of the first opamp in the state variable.

2) The connection of the 22k+22k voltage divider should be taken from the output of the second opamp in the state variable filter instead of the third.

EDIT: Updated my post above to include a link to the corrected schem.

Thanks Estragon :D
I will amend the schematics accordingly
  Cheers

- First, thanks Bajaman for this project.

- I've finished mine (still unboxed) and tomorrow I'm gonna test it on my bass rig.

- I'm going to make some comparitive with the vst version too. So chips vs code on your screens soon.

Here is a quick clip, firts in bypass and then the Baja-BBE on.

Whohohoo! :P This seems to be exactly what I need - thanks bajaman! I will definitely build this when I'll have some free time. Can you please post a bit higher resolution picture of the discrete version's PCB-Transfer?

Goaltoday, thanks for the clip!

Interesting! In OTA LM13700 datasheet ("improved" LM13600); google for LM13700.pdf (not enough posts for direct link) there is a dual-stage controllable state-variable filter pictured (FIGURE 14, pg. 15 of "national" datasheet).

As-is, it only provides for bandpass and lo-pass outputs, however somebody with skill could possibly integrate it as a building-block into BBE schematic?

This way it could be easily controled with a cv-signal or by a LFO? I wonder how would that sound like ...

thanks to bajaman for the schematic :)
I've build base on the bajaman schematic and PCB, but I get result with volume drop, after I change replace feedback resistor (27K/56K) in the last op-amp I get the same level volume but after I compare with the real BBE sonic stomp the output result is very different, any sugestion for this issue?

thanks for sharing

thanks baja for the great work. i built one yesterday and it sounds great but im wondering how to hook up the switching?
the diagram is a little confusing (from switch,9v to switch) as it doesnt say what kind of switch.

the switch referred to is a separate pole on the footswitch - it is only for turning the indiator led on or off.
cheers

so if i wire it up to a standard dpdt stompswitch do i just disregard these ?

yes - but you will not have any visual indication whether the unit is on or in bypass mode
If that is acceptable to you it will not affect the working of the circuit in any way, but why not purchase a TPDT and use the other section to switch the led on or off :?:
cheers

after I build with new PCB and new component I get good result and its sound great, thank to this Forum and bajaman.
becarefull with 22K resistor because I put the wrong for 2K2

Baja-
Any chance you've got the PCB tracks and layout in your usual format? I'm having a tough time working with the one posted early in the thread.

Thanks for your awesome work!

Hi, Baja! Just thought I'd pop in to say thanks for this layout! Works like a charm, beautiful pedal to have in my toolbox!
But just one minor note: Isn't the diode oriented wrong in the layout ?
