I am one step closer...After realizing there was no change when I pulled IC2 or the transistor, I checked voltages and there was nothing getting to either. It turns out the ground wire wasn't pushed into the breadboard deep enough.

I was sure that would solve the problem, but not yet. I still get an overdrive type distortion and the 5M changes the bass & treble. Now, the 50K has an effect. It turns the volume off at 100% clockwise with little change the rest of the turn.

IC1 has ~ 4.5v on lugs 2, 3, 6
IC2 has ~ 2v on lugs 2 & 6
Q has ~ .4v on the base and 0v on C, which is obviously a problem

did you measure correctly? pin 3 is grounded on IC2 (bottom on schematic).
Are you also using 741's?

I'm using UA741C, and the measurements were incorrect... this are correct:

IC1: 4.10 on 2 & 3; 4.11 on 6, 8.25 on 7
IC2: 1.87 on 2 & 6; 8.25 on 7; 1.82 on 8

that is pretty much what I have (my battery is 9.6) so it accounts for slightly higher voltages...Either our 741's don't work or we both misinterpreted something & wired it wrong. I think I'm going to pull this off the breadboard and quickly try a Dr Q.

I never build from layouts (only schematics), but that "?" you are pointing to simply looks like just a normal corner where the author forgot to remove a solder point?

I forgot to mention that the 50k pot has no effect yet, i think we must wait to see Rhandy's SFM video...

Can i post pics of my SFM?

1.82 on 8
how did you get this? shouldn't it be 0?

your english is excellent...of course, you can always post pictures...clear close-ups are best. maybe someone will catch an error.

I forgot to mention, I tried different op-amps (tl061, tl071) with the same pinout but gave me 6 - 8v on IC1 and no sound.
admittedly, i know very little about op-amps...i build primarily ge fuzzes

I actually pulled the parts off the breadboard and built this, which worked right off...
http://www.muzique.com/schem/quack.gif

I didn't even have to pull many other parts since they're so similar

I didn't have luck with my SFM yet, but i have to say that I left it alone a few days... perhaps this weekend continue to debugging it!

I tried throwing it on the breadboard some years ago with a schematic I got from DIYSB and could not get it working. Ended up building the Japanese "Q-Tripper" in Markm's gallery instead.
Don't give up, Negrosinfe!! If I have time (and parts) I'll try Randy's schematic on the ol' breadboard in a few days and test my luck too.

Alright, just finished building this up on a pcb that Rhandy Gaye supplied artwork/layout for....... no luck!! Getting no response from the 50k pot, but the other control is doing the treble/bass thing when turned. Haven't debugged yet for soldering errors, but I did notice the 2.2M on the 2nd and 6th leg of IC 2 on the schematic is a 1k in the pcb layout. Which is correct??

Okay, changed out the 1k resistor and put in the 2.2M as noted on schematic and viola, it works!!!
I didn't have a 5M pot so I went with a 330k fixed resistor and a 1M pot. The transistor I went with is a 2n5089 and op amps are UA741CP.
Negrosinfe:
Which resistor value did you go with, the one noted in schematic or pcb layout? That could be your problem too.

Green: I used 1k resistor as shown in the pcb layout, maybe tomorrow try to change it.
I used 2N5088 because i don't have any 2N5089, that could be a problem too?

One last question: with the change of the 1k resistor, did your 50k pot work?

(sorry for my very very poor english again!)

The 2n5088 is fine. I think you will have success when you change the 1k to 2.2m. Everything worked fine when I did that.
Good luck!!

hi, i just saw you got it working, that's awesome.

the 1k resistor is my fault, a typo.
