should be here in a couple days.... stay tuned!!!!

i'm gonna need help and guidance so we can get this right.... it's the sound of led zep's presence, and we need a proper schematic so we can
make a proper DIY project imho.

LONG LIVE FREESTOMPBOXES FOR DA FUCKING MASSES

be here in a couple days. psyched. if i remember correctly, these fuckers ramp. it's been so long since my last one...

:hmmm: is it the red one (with 3 dual vactrols) or the yellow (with 8 FET´s) ?

yellow label on an extruded aluminum case kinda dealio, just like the one i had forever ago.

i haven't seen the inside yet, but if memory serves it was discrete components. i don't recall any vactrols.... never saw a different one! ;)

you got one? love to see/hear it!! ;)

You can set two different phasing speeds that are footswitchable, with a master intensity setting. Mine sounded great but I'm a flanger guy.

I had no idea there were three differen circuits in these. Guess i have to open mine up once get home. It's yellow, but i'm not sure if it was with 4 or 6 stages.

really nailed that zep "nobody's fault but mine" sound.

mine shipped out yesterday, probably be here by monday... i'll post pics when it arrives.

miro, i'd love to see yours one way or the other! ;)

i had no idea there were three different circuits either. i am pretty sure my original has been lost to the sands of time tho...
when it crapped out, i recycled the case into a footswitch. kept the pcb, but ....damn.... that was eons ago.

nobody knew shit would one day be "vintage". it was just stuff back then ;)

So, as Prescence is one of my favourite albums I have to ask what makes you think that Page used this phaser? I've read that he used the Maestro PS1 and the MXR P90 around and about, like all this stuff who knows for sure I guess. Either way, Systech stuff is rare and cool so good catch Jimster!

I think mine's the same as Jimi's. 6-stage JFET phaser with 2N5458s. Pot dates are '74. So that should make this the middle version and it sounds rather blah. I don't think the base design differs too much from Phase90. But on the bright side, i think the first, 4-stage version should sound even more dull. So the one we should be after is the red one with the vactrols. That should sound better than these earlier versions.

Ramp is nice though.

Anyone have the red one? Gutshots? Schematic?

my old one was in the same yellow and black labeled case as the one i have now which is indeed the same as miro's. it's a nice phaser, but no where near as intense as the one i had years ago which appears to have been the "red and black" version with the vactrols. i remember it had several "things" on it with four wires coming out of each, i thought they were some kinda weird transistor at the time. but this is like... jesus ... easily 0 years ago now.

mine is launching soon to canada, mrdigi2t is gonna work his hen's tooth magic and draw up the circuit for me.

anybody gotta schematic?
no, really... ;)

here's a bunch of gut shots from this obscure beast... i sent dino a silver one a year or so ago to trace, figure someone may find these pics handy.
it's a double phaser... two speeds, kinda ramps between them.

it passes audio and bypasses, and i can hear the clocks working particularly when taking meter readings. but it won't actually "phase"... the trimmer for the feedback control will let you hear the phased sound (and even feed it back) but no sweep.

the blue electros are 100u @16v, the yellow are 10u (pcb says 5u, the 100's say 50u on the board) the tant is 22u, the tropical fish is .047u. little yeller things are links, diodes are in914, the round chip is a ca3080, the rest seem to be just dual opamps. i'll try and list the parts when i get a chance, and see if i can get a contiguous shot of the pcb so maybe someone can make a pcb.

i had one of these years ago... it's chewey and thick and to my ear sounded just like page on achilles last stand.

anyways.... uttsgay!!! lots of 'em... tried to get backlit shot of front and back of the board too. would LOVE to see this thing resuurected as a diy.

also would love any help/advice on where the hell to check why this thing isn't phasing... i can hear the clock, it's passing audio and effecting it, but no sweep. i am still wayyyyy too newb to figure this out i'm afraid.

anyways... guts:

i can try to, soulsonic. all i have is the crappy camera in my phone.
i'll see if my girl is talking to me yet and if she'll take some big ass pics.

would love to make this thing diy, it was such a great sound. there were two other versions, too, digi2t traced one of them last year.

got gigs... may be a couple days.

i can definitely read values etc too on anything. bear with me bro

I repaired an old script logo Phase 90 last year where two of the opamps had gone bad. Might be worth starting there. My pedal was the same - passed audio, but no phasing.

If you have an iphone or similar, you can use the volume button on the earphone lead to operate the camera's shutter, and if you stand the phone on it's side (in daylight only) you should be able to get a reasonably sharp photo free of camera shake. Don't even think about hand holding the phone to take the photo.
