Loco Box Spaceship

Post by trobbins »

Hi all,
I think this is a Locobox Spaceship. Layout of casing, power connector, pcb and type of switch are same as Choker. External case graphic is completely gone,so I can't use that for confirmation. IC's have identification obliterated. No other id apart from pcb number 50855A.

Any assistance would be appreciated with identification - especially if someone knows of a schematic or an equivalent generic flanger pedal schematic which I can use to deduce ICs and circuit.

It works pretty well. And if it is a Loco then I might put the logo/name back on the exterior of the casing.

Ciao, Tim

50855A is a little bit odd at the pcb. Even the Electra 505F (with the same type of footswitch) has written 50882A on the track side.

Therefore it is highly possible that it is the Spaceship Flanger - which was the first of all. The difference will be in the BBD-chips.

In the 50882A pcb´s the 14-pin chip at the left is a CA339E, the next is a MN3102 followed my a MN3209. The chip on the upper right is a TI4558P.

In your unit the MN3102 maybe a MN3101 and the MN3209 maybe a MN3009.

Any chance of more pictures especially from the track side ?

Thanx big A,

I appreciate the insight. Yes, the chipset advice seems right for the circuit. Can't tell if it is the older MN3209 or MN3009 - eyes are getting tired to decipher the bias setup for the 4558 (it goes down to the 'colour' pot) - as that may be the only way to tell? The bjt/fets are 2SC1815, 2SC829, and 2SK30A and one which is masked.

Input goes through 2SC1815 to 4558 opamp to MN3x09. Output of MN3x09 goes into double RC. MN3101/2 has pin 5 O/C (external excitation by CA339). Pedal output driven by other half of 4558.

Many similarities in layout with Electra 505F.

PCB rear and front pictures attached.

My quick scan of other flangers didn't show any closely similar circuits.

Regards, Tim

Based on your photo's it seems to be a MN3009
Sorry. Plain out of planes.

I see on the enclosure the little space where the screw that held the battery door in place would go. That alone would make it a Spaceship.

Thanks very much for your assistance. I've worked out a schematic - please let me know if something doesn't seem right. Circuit seems fairly straight forward except for COLOR and oscillator sections. Any thoughts?
Cheers Tim.

Updated schematic attached - sorry about that.

My summary of operation is:
Input stage amplifier with high resistance input and 2SC185 npn emitter follower biased around lowest NF. Dry signal taken direct to output stage 4558 opamp. Wet signal gated by 2SK30A, with bandpass filter to high impedance input emitter follower which feeds mixer/output stage 4558 opamp as well as returning feedback signal via COLOR pot and phase compensation to wet input stage. Wet input stage opamp includes signal clipping diodes, followed by low pass filter stage using 2SC185 npn emitter follower to drive BBD, with BBD driving high impedance input low pass filter stage using 2SC185 npn emitter follower, with wet signal then fed to 2SK30A gate through a level trimpot. A trimpot is used to set the half-supply bias ‘Z’ level. The LFO has RATE, INTENSITY, and MANUAL control pots, and feeds a MN3101 (?) via a comparator working with a high speed npn 2SC829 and the MN3101 inverters to provide the high frequency switching signal set by a trimpot to ?kHz. LFO waveshape is ?

As far the the possible chips go, the chipset info of similar circuits I have so far is:
Electra 505F (50882A pcb) has CA339E, MN3102, MN3209, TI4558P.
Redson Flanger 12 has LM339, MN3102, MN3209, TL4558P.

The other 'FL-01' co-brands appear to be:
Cutec FL-01 Flanger
Gig FL-01 Flanger
PowerVoice FL-01 Flanger
Studio Series FL-01 Flanger
Volz FL-01 Flanger
Electronika Flanger FL01 (Russian)

Thanks for the schematic. I've a Cutec FL-01. I rehoused it and made it true bypass. I have to say I like it. I can get some DEM sounds out of it.

Hey,

thanks for posting the schematic.
I've got one of these units without sanded IC's and the chips are as follows:

model#=50855A
Dual opamp=6552
BBD=MN3009
Clock=MN3101
14 pin ic=CA339

hope this helps anyone
