I whipped up a vero for the ROG Ruby amp tonight - thought i might give it a go, though it's maybe not as compact as i could be. It sounds pretty nice, and is supposed to go in a cardboard box along with a speaker i salvaged from an old tv I built mine with a 2N5457. J201's work fine as well.

Thanks I may give it a go. I have two tinny speakers saved from my old, crashed mac. It will sound geeky with those speakers, but hell... why not

I built this last week and used a 8ohm 12" 70W speaker for it. It sounds okay to me.

Just a suggestion : put a 1 watts resistor of 1/4 the impedance of your speaker, in series in the output.

I don't want to spoil, it's an experiment, i hear a big difference, want to know if someone else hears the same.
I tried with a true guitar cab (and that's the point...somewhat) so if anybody is willing to make the resistor switchable (just short it) and test with a good cab....
Actually i used a LM380, but doesn't matter.

I make a buffer in this enclosure :

Allright then, I still have a free DPDT switch next to my pot. That was used to switch the 220pF cap on the volume lug but I didn't notice any difference so I finally left out entirely.
Anyways I breadboarded the original two knob Ruby and this 'Bassman' modded one and liked the later better with my Strat. Still somewhat sterile but I don't expect too much from such a low cost low part count build. Btw I drived a real 12" guitar cab with it. Plenty of volume for apartment practice.

Thanks guys ! Hope you will hear something interesting (BTW, a 1/4 watts should be fine actually, i used a 1 watt one as the LM380 is a 2 watts IC, not useful with a 386)

I'm going to be honest. I didn't.
I ran it through my 12" 70W guitar speaker 1x12 cab but no noticeable difference for me with or without the resistor.

Shit, anyway i used a 1 ohms for a 3 ohms speaker, more obvious result i suppose, i'm gonna make a little TBA820M amp and give it a try with different resistors.
