Any good resources/books on how to design a power supply?

Tube or solid-state, this section goes to eleven!

Hello all I was wondering if anyone knew of any good books on the subject of power supplies in tube amps. I been planning on building a preamp section of a Laney Supergroup LA60 which looks like it is close to a Marshall with a few value changes. I imagine there’s really no one size fits all power supply to power it all up so I imagine I’d have to read up on the subject if I wanted a power supply that wasn’t noisy and powers the whole thing efficiently. Also a question I have is on the LA60 I noticed that one of the tubes which I guess acts as a buffer/booster so the tonestack doesn’t sap up too much of the signal seems to be getting 340v. I don’t understand how this doesn’t destroy the tube as unless I’m looking at the 12ax7 spec sheet incorrectly I believe it’s max plate voltage is 300v.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Rambozo,

Tale a look at this link: http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/ there are several explanations about power supplies, heater connections and many other tips about tube amps.

Cheers,
Jose
