I have built this and it sounds very good.
My thought was to run 2 in parallel(stereo), but that never got finished......

While the LDR bypass seems unnecessary, I wonder if it might not make a good "swoosh eliminator" with the addition of a half-wave rectifier--an envelope controlled bypass.

I will definitively try that, MPF102 are eazy to find, still (or J113) but transistors are long time gone, I think... but I think BC183 or BC548 are the best replacements

Would be a cool project to update, not just with available JFET (whatever that is!), but also with DC power and a modern bypass (although I think my swoosh-eliminator idea above has merit, but with an LED vactrol, not an incandescent bulb!). But the engineering is over my head, so I'll watch from the sidelines.
