It sounds great
Lots of tonal variety with the switching.
It plays really nicely BUT it weighs a too much for me to strap on for any length of time - I see why Gibson are chambering their Les Pauls these days
The sustain is incredible and it feels so smooth to play - just wish it wasn't so damned heavy.
Actually - i was seriously considering stripping it of hardware and routering out two chambers in the back of the body to relieve the weight somewhat - could be my next project over the holiday break. I would then fit cover plates over the holes - no one looks at the back of the body when you are playing the guitar
cheers

I'm not sure if you have heard of him,but Billy Gibbons of ZZTop had some of his Les Pauls routed out with some chambers in the bodies, and he said in an interview that doing that improved the tone of them, this was when ZZTop were recording the Rhythmeen album.... :)

I have a blue Ashton guitar with a Les Paul shaped body on it,I scored it from work when they were doing a bit of a cleanout, anyway, one of the picups were open circuit and no longer worked,so I eventually bought a couple of Dimarzio PAF Pro Humbuckers for it,wired it all up myself,it sounds good but it is a pain to keep in tune.... :)

Bajaman - wow, great looking body you made! :applause: (I've only just seen your LP build photos as I've never been interested in the JP #2 wiring so hadn't followed this thread before). I would love to be able to cut and carve out a guitar body like that (and I've no idea how you go about creating a belly on the guitar ...a little bit like Fender in the 50s which is why Gibson added the violin-like body in the first place! :D ). I would really like to move in the direction of building my own electric guitar(s) in the future - cut out and shape my own bodies and necks. Some way off getting my own space, tools, and necessary machinery to begin learning at present though.

Anyway, a couple of pics I've picked up when trawling the web in the past of the expensive Gibson clones of Jimmy Page's No 2 Les Paul. I like the use of Kit Kat wrapper as shielding  ...well worth the £20,000 or whatever big price tag these things had! :P

Here's a pic of my Ashton Guitar, they were throwing it out at work,so I rescued it from the rubbish, the neck had a bit of mould on it,and was very dirty,I used some Qwik Fret to clean it up a bit,the three 500KA pots were well and truly knackered so I replaced them all, there's a slight amount of rust on the bridge pieces, but not enough to worry about, the tuners were all replaced with a set of Gotohs, but I'm thinking of getting a set of Grover Locking Machines, the original neck pickup didn't work because it had gone open circuit,so I ended up replacing both of the pickups with two Dimarzio PAF Pros.... :)

The original control knobs were knackered too... :)

It sounds good, but is a bit of a pain to keep in tune,I think I have some friction issues at the nut.... :)

I'm just in the process of paying-off a Gibson USA Les Paul Studio guitar which I have on lay buy at Sounds Of Music, it was originally priced at $2599.00 but because it was involved in a shop accident and suffered some minor cosmetic damage to the finish on the body, it's only going to cost me $2000.00, so far I only have $600.00 left to pay off...... :thumbsup

From what I've read online, this model of Les Paul Studio guitar has coil-tapping on both pickups which you engage by pulling the volume knobs, might see if I can post a wiring diagram for it... :thumbsup

Les Paul's are great guitars. I have an epiphone. I used to think they were overrated until I got this one. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I would like to add a bigsby and some better pickups, though.

I'd be very interested, but I can't do it from here. I love Gibson guitars, though. I've always wanted a firebird.

I know it's tough to follow something as gorgeous as a true Gibson, but here's a pic of my beat up epi Les Paul.

That Epi Les Paul is a nice one, I like the finish on the body...... :thumbsup

Since buying my Les Paul I've developed a renewed appreciation for these guitars, I used to own a Samick Les Paul in the nineties which left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, granted it was a cheapie though..... :thumbsup

Thanks, DrNomis. The finish is stock. When I got this one, it had a broken fingernut. I replaced it with a bone nut. Someone had also put the mounting ring for the bridge pickup on backwards, which I also fixed. To be honest, I used to hate les Paul guitars. But this one changed my opinion. I got it at a local pawn shop for $250. It has a nice clear sound. It also seems to hold tune pretty good. I had to replace the tuners, as well. I got the stock ones from Gibson. They're kluson replicas with green buttons. I set everything on this guitar. Neck relief is at. 014". It's my favorite one.

I love the look of that solid Mahogany wood Bajaman!
How did you carve the top?

On my Epi LP plus top I got from pawn shop for 250$ the PU's were only two wire so I had to grind the solder welds and pull the PU's apart and convert them to 4 wire units, which involved re potting them. I did the Jimmy Page #1 wiring which is 4 PP pots no switches under pickguard, and treble bleed with a 180K resistor parallel to 1n cap(JP's used a different treble bleed cap and resistor value but I chose my values by ear).I only could afford two PP pots when I did it,so I used two mini on/off/on dpdt switches mounted to the pot cavity cover. This worked well for me,I used it several years in a Led Zep tribute band and never had an issue with the switches being on the back.
I saw someone who mounted slide switches on the toggle cavity cover,I think that would be even better, its simple to replace and puts them in an easier to access spot, but I only needed to switch between songs so no prob being on back.

FWIW to get a proper "Kashmire" sound put neck and bridge to single coil,PU selector to middle, and switch the bridge pup out of phase, and series the series for neck and bridge. This is the only way to get that sound w/o buying a Danolectro guitar. I used to get people asking me all the time how I got the tone spot on.(LP with Jimmy Page wiring,DIY 18 watt lite IIb,and a J-station set to British)
for "Stairway" I would start with the neck in SC mode, then go to HB mode as the song got louder, then the bridge PU for the solo, this also really helped when playing live

What I would like to find is a diagram that does series/parallel,north or south coil only for both neck and bridge, out of phase bridge from neck, and series bridge and neck whether single,or humbucker irregardless of whether the HB mode is series or parallel.

If you dont need to switch between north and south coils in single mode then series/parallel gives that single coil sound when in parallel w/o the hum.

Does this JPLP #2 diagram let you switch between north and south coils in SC mode or does it just short one coil out?
I would gladly put my pickguard back on and mount a couple small switches there to get that extra feature.

I carved the top by hand - don't ever want to do that again :slap:
In answer to your final question - no , it just shorts one coil for single coil mode.
Thanks for the interesting Led Zep pickup selections - must try for Kashmir
cheers
