Yamaha CMOS Overdrive (gut shots)

got this cheap in "junk" condition (which means something is defective). Seems to work and produce sound but having no point of ref. have no idea if it's healthy or not. Anyway, thought I'd disassemble to take some guts pics. Hope these are enough (for anyone wanting to make a schematic, etc.). I did bend over some of the parts so the values could be read(photographed), so I hope these are enough, but if anyone REALLY wants I'll take it apart again to take some more pics. (Too redundant, etc. then let me know and I'll delete the pertinent shots.)

Never knew they got in on that game ,
i gather if you say you're not sure if it's
working correctly , that you're not impressed with the sound ?
or what do you think ? can you describe the qualities ?
anyway thanks for the work with all the pix
[ love that curvy 70's look of the trace side ]

Yes, it didn't seem particularly impressive however " *my* setup" of SansAmp into a joemeek preamp isn't working (something is wrong with the joemeek) so possibly it would sound better, but I'm guessing it won't. If you want to listen to somebody's sound clip of one, I found a page:
http://gauze.s297.xrea.com/odb_cod100.htm
(It's from a site where a number of overdrives, distortions, etc. are compared with the same riffs--or at least I think that's the idea.)

For a short while i had the E.H. hot tubes
which came from a friend and his description
was one word " Caustic " which i agree
so i think it's easy to make a poor sounding cmos
these days broken sounds are more popular but guessing
this Yamaha comes from the 80's ?

Yes clearly , i said " 70's LOOK "
actually it has a bit of the tron feel to it
[ not your typical Boss anyway ]
but not the total freehand taped look of japenese 60's / 70's
better ?
check out the artwork of the tc eq i posted to the 70's+
not sure of it's era ? but plenty curvy

mid to late 80s? (not sure. That's my vague recollection from seeing this "plasticky" series in magazine ads.)
There is, apparently the manual avail. on line:
http://files.effectsdatabase.com/docs/m ... od-100.pdf
(Something I wonder is, if (since this thing uses a lot of power) the people at the store tested it with a weak battery, got no sound and therefore they concluded it was "defective". I also got a totally passive A/B/tuner out switcher (also as "junk") which seemed a bit odd (but maybe a switch is bad or something--not sure because I actually haven't tried it yet. Also got a Yamaha Distortion and Guyatone Phaser--all too good to pass up for the price even if defective--which they were (Yamaha was resurrected with a new primary filter cap and batt. snap. Not sure what is wrong with the Guyatone which turns on but isn't passing audio.)

Curious specs for the yami cmos , wonder why they went for a slightly
different chip then the usual 4049 ?
I think you're on the right track for the others though
check power and continuity , look for obvious physical
things , good score

- Completed builds: Ds-1 mods, SD-1 mods, Small Clone mods, Muff build, Axis build, various other transistor booster builds... I can build a badaxe harmonic perc, but I can't get a fuzzface to sound worth a crap!

I wish i could find a pinout of that NJM4558SD ... I have one but Googled for a SIP 9 package pinout and failed...
I would really love a good datasheet archive without all the crap ads.

I want it to sound like bees buzzing around in a 55 gallon drum...

I think its pin 1 vCC, 2 A out, 3 A -in, 4 A +in, 5 vEE, 6 B +in, 7 B-in, 8 B out, 9 vCC
