Yes this one is assym. The Burst version has 2 diodes per side.

The goop sure gives the impression there is more in there than there really is! You should see the 1 knob Lovepedals. The is more goop than actual circuit!

Nice de-gooping! That is some hard epoxy, I'd be curios to know how it was removed-

Yes the Roadhouse and the Burst are similar.

Of all the pedals I've degooped, the E was the easiest. The harder the epoxy, the easier it cracks. ;) I used a very small screwdriver as a chisel.

Here are guts from a "Burst" Eternity:

Anybody knows if Sean (bigPIMP) already became millionaire with his work ?

There´s a sucker born every minute - and too many of them end up in the bootweak pedal biz.

I played around with my burst clone yesterday and I really didn't like it stock in comparison to other OD's I have built. Just way too thin and anemic sounding. Next to a Timmy it was a weakling.

I'm going to mod it to fatten it up and drop the gain way down, which I think will improve mine a lot.

Madbean,

What specs did you use for your Burst Clone? What guitar and amp did you use it with?

Thanks for the schematics.

I have an Eternity Burst (another trade) and I just don't like the flat sounding mids. I wondering now if I should mod it or trade it to someone who could put it to use.

I built it nearly stock to the Burst schem that was floating around. I tested it with a Tele through an un-modded Epi Jr (which is a bit thin to begin with).

To mod it, I increased the input cap to 100n, increased the feedback cap to 220n and the cap between gain and tone stages to 220n. I also tried dropping the gain pot to 100k, but then there was not enough variance in the gain, so I stuck with 500k. Right now, it is a little too bass-heavy, and requires too much boost in the tone pot, so I'm going to bring the decoupling cap back up too 100n (don't have a 150n).

I like it as a low gainer before higher gain pedals. When used to slam the front end of another gain pedal it is really sweet.

I had fun hitting my roadhouse version E with my Klon. Very nice "tight" bottom and it brings out the mids. 8)

What do you guys think about the 390 ohm resistor on the 9v line? This is higher than most pedals and would seem to limit current/voltage.
Possibly built in"sag"?

The 390E R drops the supply voltage for the IC a bit, resulting in a more compressed sweeter sound. The late Crowther HCs use the same trick to kill some stiffness in the sound.

JHS, thanks for your input. Pretty sure that's actually a 330 ohm, at least it was on the 3 E's I looked at.

I think 330 and 390 have both been used on different model E's.

Thanks for the layout, R8 is floating free, Gain 1 should be connected at this row as far as I can tell.

Check again. R8 is connecting one side of the op amp to the other. This is a confirmed build.

The 'Burst layout will be my next build. Parts are on order. I have an unmarked (sanded clean) IC that, swapped with the unknown IC that was in my Burst Eternity, sounded identical. I think I'll use that one. :)

On the veroboard layout, am I right in saying the 'out' of this circuit is lug 2 on the volume pot?
