Got this in the post today. I like the red PCB. 8)

I've got a layout in the works (it's done but I'm trying to optimize). Truth be told, I think I'm going to do my "own" version without the clipping diode switch (Lovepedal calls it a "Mids" switch).

Mumble, mumble, blah, something....Guv'nor with a single tone control...blah, blah, mumble something.

Note: I drew the switch as a SPDT. It's actually a DPDT with two of the sets of lugs connected together. It's more efficient as I have it draw, and I suspect Lovepedal uses a DPDT because it has more "anchoring". The switch itself is not secured to the enclosure, so the extra lugs help out to keep it from breaking.

Pretty damn sure it is correct as drawn. But as always, input is welcome.

hadn't seen one before, so google imaged it... what's with the switch not being housing mounted? just waiting for dust and crap to fall in there

It's because board mounting the jacks like that requires you to use long-leg alphas, but the toggle switches match up with short leg alphas for pot length

Of course, wiser men than he mount the 3PDT offboard and put the jacks on the UNDERSIDE (e.g. EHX BB size pedals)
Testing, testing, won too fwee

Here's an unverified vero layout if someone wants to give it a go:

Image

Watch the hidden track cuts which you'll see on the bare board layout. Everything is as per the schematic except I used a 100uF instead of 47uF for the main filter cap, and I didn't bother with the 100nF in parallel with it.

I could tell from the sound clips that it wasn't an Electra/COT. Way too much sustain. I actually suspected it might be FET-based.

I agree. I'm not crazy about how the switch is mounted, and people always bitch about board-mounted but unsecured 9v jacks, but otherwise it's quite sturdy and well built. And it sounds pretty damn good as well. And why shouldn't it? It's a tried-and-true circuit design. ;)

I actually rather like Sean's thinking on this one. I'm usually the kind of guy who looks at a complex circuit and tries to figure out how to make it more simple (ie - reduce the number of pots/switches/etc). So a Guv'nor dirt section (almost exactly part-for-part) with a single, simple tone control is right up my alley.

That said, I'm going to build my own version and sell this one. I'd rather have $100 than this particular pedal.

It doesn't sound that way with my gear. It's fairly well balanced in the bass/treble department. My biggest gripe is that the Gain control taper is shitty. 3/4 of it is low gain, and then you get into JCM800 zone all of a sudden. I think maybe B100K would be a better choice?

Anyway, here's the messy layout I did. The next one I do will be for my slightly trimmer version, with a few value tweaks. That is, I'm gonna pull a Lovepedal on Lovepedal.

Sean has come a long way from those old gooped Electras, hasn't he?

I just looked it up on the lovepedal site.
doesn't really sound all that special (the clip there), I let it play when reading through this. Sounds kinda artificial. Of course it probably sounds way better in person than through my crappy laptop mono :blackeye
anyway. That Guitar Center only thing is kinda weird, especially when reading the description:
Guitarists rejoice, your quest for the ultimate drive ends here.
If this were the ultimate drive, why not go global?

that switch, well guys, it's only 130 bucks, okay? don't expect too much! (like simple offboard wiring of 1 little spdt)
