That's a great tip. I use a piece of string wrapped round and under to do the same thing. I used to use a screwdriver to lever them off but, as Madbean points out, you can damage the finish..madbean wrote:When I traced out a portion of the Memory Boy I had a similar issue. The knob was so stuck it ended up pulling the entire shaft out of the pot. I've never had that happen before. One cute trick (for future reference) ---use a piece of cloth, like a t-shirt to surround the base of the knob and pull it out that way. No chance of damaging the finish.rocklander wrote:I've struck this with a pedal a guy sent me to check over.. it was a GGG kit he'd made, and the knobs were insanely tight even with the grub screw removed. it's about here that I should be giving you a piece of awesome advice to get them off, but nah.. I just forced themFoXXTone wrote:
Also, I can't get the damn knobs off to check the values of the pots. They have a small screw, but even then they feeled like knurled shafts, because they are stuck hard.

On another somewhat related note...
I find that sometimes when you put on the knobs that if you put them down too low on the pot shaft that they will bind when turning the pots.
As a solution, I often strategically place 2 or 3 of the white washers from the 3PDTs (that a lot of people appear to detest!) around the pot shaft and let the knobs sit on them as I tighten the set screws. This keeps a safe distance away from the enclosure finish, allows the pots to spin freely without binding, and ensures that all of the knobs are at equal height.

I had the same thing happen with a Chinese-made Rat2. The damn shaft pulled right out of the pot. I bitched about it in a thread at TGP...then ProCo got in touch with me and sent me a free set of replacement pots.madbean wrote:The knob was so stuck it ended up pulling the entire shaft out of the pot. Okay, now we're way off topic.
So, how 'bout that Tiny Orange Phaser?
No news about the sweet Phaser?

Any progress on this guys? I'm loading up this zip right now. Anyone got pics with less of the tape in the way?
I could turn this around into a schem you can study if i could just get some clear pics. Ditto the Carbon Copy.

Hey again,
I cleaned up the schematic and have a bud who says he's hot a shot at getting a TOP for a closer look. We'll see. Meantime here's a printout and I ordered up the known parts today from Mouser (tho the 2N5952 is in RoHAS transit so I had to order from a mom & pop.) I got enough to make 3 of the phase 90 and 3 of these minus the missing elements. When all that arrives I'll demo-board up both and have a closer look and report back here.
If anyone wants a more literal schem to do some poking themselves let me know how you'd like it, I usually just bread board for confirmation and go straight to the SMD boards but I'll solve routing or dupe the existing board if someone wants to do some tinkering.
The schem is incomplete for these question marks, nothing was omitted from Foxx's version I just added the Values for the pots.
Proceed at your own risk, this is all just a start, thanks to FoXXTone's good start and pics, heh, thanks!
More in a couple weeks.
