Just got this today. Not very impressed with the soldering on the perf. Values on the resistors are 5.1k and 100k. Caps are 22uf electro and .1 uf film. Pot is B1M. can't tell the diode type. Tranny is j201. Hope this helps. Ask if ya need anything.

I didn't pay for it. Got in a trade, figured I'd help get it traced then sell it to an unsuspecting p&w guitarist. I just don't see how jhs stays in business with shoddy work like that.

Glad to hear you weren't one of the unsuspecting... $110.00 standard - $145.00 for hand paint??? :slap:

i'm going to guess thats an older one. FWIW, (and I dislike JHS too) most of their recent stuff is built on nice fabricated boards (even if 90% of them are clones).

Ironic that JHS is slightly ashamed of the shoddy solder job and is prepared to replace this unit with a new one despite the fact the current owner didn't even buy it, yet an early lovepedal with a similar degree of hamfisted soldering and derivative circuit would probably sell for far more than a recent factory made version.

Wagers on common source?
It is possible this is an "original" design.
Common source amplifiers can be an effective means of simple voltage multiplication, albeit, with their own host of drawbacks and disadvantages, which appear to have been ignored/negated given the suggestion above.

What is the role of the diode in a common source amplifier?

You can bias the amp with a diode (instead of using a resistor from source to ground).

Or were you asking a rhetorical question?
