MI Audio - Crunch Box [traced]

To bypass RF and the 'shrillest' high frequencies part of the signal?
At higher frequencies the impedance of the RC couple in the feedback loop should get lower and the gain should be reduced.

I put a three band tone control in it and another opamp stage and all that to drive it. It's way cooler now. I think I accomplished my goal.

Got a schematic of what you did?

Good on you and call it somethingelse.
I did have one of those that was contributed to the Katrina donation to musicians that lost their gear.
I had at the time a Fulltone OCD of a very low number that had a lot more dynamic response and an Eternity that was the original unit that I wrote a review about, but that also happen to be the only one Eternity that sounds that way? and so this Crunch box had nothing to further offer or it just drowned in the competition- however had it had a different tonecontrol it could very well have held up- oh yes I have my test gear and know what I'd like to hear and so does Michael Ibrahim........
Oh well
Have fun

Paparoni, try a simple search in YouTube, a lot of people posted videos about it

yeah, you can find a lot of vids with Proguitarshop.com or tonefactor.com on youtube.

I didn't know http://www.tonefactor.com, I've just had a look. In the Crunch Box page they says: "MI Audio Crunch Box. Simple and straight forward, just gain, tone and volume. The Crunch Box has some similarities to the Tube Zone, in the sense that the design is based on a multiple clipping architecture (the signal is clipped 3 times)".
...multiple clipping architecture? in the schematics I know I can only see a pair of LED. Am I missing something?
BTW the sound recorded in the video seems different from the one I remember coming fro my clone before I modded it...

They must mean that it's clipped 3 times because when the gain is up, the opamp stages are distorting and clipping too. So, it's opamp1 clipping, opamp2 clipping, and then the diodes clipping. You could remove the diodes from the circuit and it would still have much distortion (and be VERY loud!)... but it might be a very ugly distortion.nooneknows wrote:I didn't know http://www.tonefactor.com, I've just had a look. That could be something to try...

No, it isn't. Tried that allready - it is indeed some kind of a ugly distortion. The clipping section is just fine as it is.soulsonic wrote:nooneknows wrote: That could be something to try...

maybe it is worth trying with different opamps, we could find one better sounding in distortion...HEAD wrote:No, it isn't. Tried that allready - it is indeed some kind of a ugly distortion. The clipping section is just fine as it is.soulsonic wrote: That could be something to try...

As nobody is probably gonna be harmed so just go ahead and try!:) As far as I can say it sounded neither good with a TL072CP nor with a NE5532AP nor with the LM833.

I can't imagine there not being enough gain in the crunch box for any possible situation.
