I don't know for sure, but I've heard it was just a mxr dist plus clone

I got another information ...
JHS/Jürgen/... posted a schematic, some time ago, so I think it's no problem to post here, but I have no webspace. Maybe some person would like to host the file?

You could also open a flickr or webshots account too... don't know about any limitations or whatnot

heh! Top stuff. Some of the booteek boys really do suck ass.

In this world honesty goes a long way. Look at Dano and his FKR - he's honest about what it is and he builds 'em good nuff said without all the mojo marketing . . . .

JHS posted in one of the diystompboxes regarding that schematic--he said it wasn't a trace, but an approximation of trying to find the same sound.

Hi All,

I'm new here lots of great information on the site, this looks like a easy project for a newbie like me.

I have two questions:

- The image shows two potentiometers VOL and STRUCTURE the Cot50 only has one? same for the SPST switch?

- Where does the middle terminal of the VOL pot go?

Thanks,

Guis

This schem shows Kusi's and my modded version of the COT 50.

The structure pot is called BIAS on the COT and the original has no Vol-pot. If you replace the vol-pot with 2 1N914 antip. wired you have the COT.

Org. trannie is 2N5088, they stray a lot and so the basic sound of the COT can vary from soft to hard, like on the original.

Originality doesn't sell... people want the same stuff someone else has or used live or in the studio. I make pedals I like... if others like them, cool. If they don't, please check out some of my competitors because one of them probably has tweaked the same circuit in the way you do like.

I used to play Van Halen's "Unchained" with a Fuzz Factory and a Wah... I thought it was a cool twist... the other guys in the band thought other wise. Consumers spending habits are in the vein of "I want to sound like so and so." Heck, most of the studio guys I know need to please producers and artist who also "want to sound like so and so".

So as a builder, you can take a chance by building some really innovative designs or build you know what will sell. OR have the core of your product be the stuff that sells and then build the innovative stuff later on. Fulltone did this... I mean how many TTE's does he sell... not many. But he has his core that allows him to do other things.

Oh man, you hit it right on the head!!!!
I've said it before elsewhere, I'll say it here... you can build the coolest overdrive you've ever heard and 15% of the guitar players who really have a good ear will be able to tell the intricasies of the tone, and usually they'll love it BECAUSE it's different.
40% will wish it sounded like a tubescreamer because in their head, *that's* what they identify with when they think of an overdrive.
40% will think it sounds too much like a tubescreamer (because again, that's what they think of when they think of an overdrive, and their ears are usually not too developed to tell the differences) and the other 5% will just buy it because they can... the "new toy" syndrome.

Just my observation after doing this for several years now. :)

Thanks JHS,

So based on this schem of k**i's and your version, I should end up with this?

I'd appreciate a verification of this as well. I'm not sure if JHS means that another pair of anti-parallel diodes should be added, or if the existing ones should be used.

Use a 1N4148 instead of the 1N400x and drop the 1M pulldown R, it's not in the COT and only sucks tone. The rest is the COT...

My modded clone has a additional 5,6n as I-cap and a BC109c trannie and runs on 18V for more headroom.

BTW: If you rotate the diodes (1N914 and 400X) about 180° the tone will be slightly fatter.

After listening to the soundclips I am wondering if $229,--:
http://www.lovepedal.com/cot50redbg.htm
or $300,--:
https://cgi.ebay.com/LOVEPEDAL-COT50-SI ... dZViewItem

isn´t a little bit much for this piece of sh*t ?
The best result for "dynamic and grit" you will obtain with this unit by connecting it to a blackface Fender Deluxe-Reverb and looking, that (with full battery) the LED is not lighting.

Now you know why it is gooped:
"I want to be - rich like Zachieeee"

analogguru -
"if you need this pedal you are playing the wrong amp"

Here you can listen to a plain deluxe-reverb copy:
http://www.musicalcity.com.au/sounds/vi ... luxe_2.htm
http://www.musicalcity.com.au/sounds/vi ... luxe_4.htm

the sound comes from the tube-amp, not any booster.
There´s a sucker born every minute - and too many of them end up in the bootweak pedal biz.
