alright, I built one of these from the layout below. It was really dark and muffled so I changed C3 to a 22nF and C7 to a .1uF. The results are pretty much the same. I have noticed that the "Voice" pot only makes a difference past 3 o'clock. Also, I can remove the 2N7000's completely and it makes no difference in the sound. Would someone mind to look at the layout and see if there is anything that is incorrect. Im using a TL082 (tried a 4558 also), 2N7000's, and 1N34a diodes. Im under the assumption that C2,C1, and C6 are just filtering noise so changing their values shouldnt make any difference in the overall tone? Im pretty much lost at this point.

The transistor orientation is wrong on that layout.

The diodes on each one should point towards source. On this layout D1 and Q1 are correct, but D2 and Q2 are wrong. To fix it, cut the trace connecting gate and source on Q2. Then connect the gate to the drain.

Thanks. Thats what I noticed when I compared it to Derik's layout, but wasnt sure if it would make a difference. Back to the iron...

Very nice work. Love the Zappa 'stache. I had some PnP around here of the whole image (looks like the same one) which I was going to etch onto an enclosure....never got around to it.

I made another one, this time with exact parts values, using Torchy's layout (a thousand thanks torchy :D ) and also good quality pots. simple look. Was a bit tricky fitting everything in.

What size pots are they and what size enclosure is that?

Anyway - I went through this thread and couldn't find any breadboard or Vero layouts (some dead links), so I have just this evening got it down on Breadboard - is anyone interested in that layout? (although a noob I figure I have been lurking and learning long enough - if anyone will benefit then it's time to give back lol )

If anyone has a good link for Vero or Strip layout I'd appreciate it...?
If not I'll be doing it in due course and could share - just might take me a while

thanks,
Tim

timmyo, they are Omeg 16mm conductive plastic pots from Rapid
Image

the box is 111mm X 60mm X 27mm

and I used that layout just posted^ and a millenium 2 for true bypass

I tend to use bigger boxes normally, so it was quite pleasing to get everything in there. my finishing skills are rubbish, so I didn't bother painting it
