I haven't seen anything here or "the other forum." Does anyone have gutshots of the VCR?

I have none, but you can buy a pcb and a pre-programmed eeprom at pedalpcb.com.

The build doc on that site has a schematic (which I don't want to repost without permission). But does anyone know if the JHS really uses that FV1 chip?!?!?!?! That seems like something you'd find in a karaoke machine.

Feel free to post the schematic.

You might be surprised to find out how many pedals use the FV-1. Although it's far from a SHARC it's certainly capable of more than just cheap karaoke machines.

Interesting. They have a case study on the SHARC in Line 6 products.

The FV-1 chip is quite a powerful chip for what it does, as well as the in-built effects you can write your own code to create your own effects. This is what makes the FV-1 a powerful chip in its own right. Of course it isn't anything like a Shark processor for power but very good all the same. It's certainly not a cheap karaoke chip.

Many effects use this FV1, a couple of examples are Catlinbread Echorec, Topanga etc. Keeley plus many others including some of my pedals. Also used as the reverb in the Fender EVH5150 Valve Combo.
It's fairly straight forward, if you want to start it , press start. You can work out the rest of the controls for yourself !

No silicon heaven ? preposterous ! Where would all the calculators go ?

Yep. The reverb and "analog chorus" are both digital algorithms coming from the FV-1. In the original the boost is just an SHO style circuit tacked on the end...

It's a tremendously noisy circuit. The clone has a lower noise floor than the original but it's not immune.
