BTW, I think this is a really nice demo of what the Brown Source can do:

The demo of the BS vs the Tube Screamer is cool. The BS deffo is lower gain and a little different sounding to the TS.

The rest of clip is alittle dissappointing. The Drive and Vol are left up FULL for the majority of the time and makes the BS effect indestinguishable. It could easily have been a SD1, DS1, katana, micro amp, DOD250, TS, gainster yada yada...

I would have been more interested in hearing more of the natural BS.

I think the demo did a good job of showing the effect of the rotary switch. FWIW I rarely use the drive control on less than max. There's a good review of it on HC that describes how it does "something" but he's not sure exactly how to describe it. I think it is as much an EQ as it is an overdrive.

Lacesensor's brown Source vero layout...

Anyone successfully built a Brown Source with Lacesensor's vero layout?

On mine everything works as it should except the output volume is very low and when the volume pot is turned there is some noise. It sounds as if there is DC on the pot. I replaced the pot and had the same results.

Has anyone here experienced this?

Lovetone - Brown Source: Component Layout

Could someone please post some high-resolution photos of the component side of the Brown Source PCB? Showing the capacitors and resistor positions? :?:

Also, there seems to be conflicting information on the web around what the correct capacitor values should be. :?
Modman: Your schematic shows 220nF capacitors in several places, another two schematics I found show 22nF in identical positions ? :?: :?:

Any chance someone could put up a list of the capacitors with their position designators and the value on the capacitor e.g. C1: 223K or 224K or 224J or whatever is in the original Lovetone Brown Source PCB positions? :?: Please....

Check out the attached schematics...to see what I'm getting and why I'm :? :?

I'm trying to reassemble a friends Brown Source after some DIY modifications went wrong and they pulled out ever part and never kept a list of what went where; so now I have a guessing game of what goes where. Also he's lost some of the capacitors
Tried contacting the Lovetone people in the UK; but their standard response is silence.

Thanks,

Alex. :block:

In the interest of posterity, I can provide what is asked for here as I had a recent request, and took the liberty to scan / redraw the parts layout and traces of my real Brown Source

Sorry its 3 years late (!)

There are a lot of versions of this floating on the internet. This is traced from my own v4T from 1996 (quite an early one, S/N 0094). My actual unit as its early has a cap tacked on, and a trace missing that was addressed with kynar wire. I have modified the traces to take account for this, should someone with to actually produce an etch of this layout.

Just a heads up the 22nF caps should be 220nF caps. Sorry! Easy fix...

adjusted trace parts overlay provided.

also added PDF with scaled (print at 100%) for the transfer

The previously posted etchable PDF is correct
However there was a slight trace position issue on the parts layout (so anyone using this to make a vero might have made a booby...)
Its the 33nF cap off the tone control.

heres the fixed copy. Enjoy

This is built and verified by the way .
