Beautiful work on those pedals. Makes me want to build something on turrets just to see what its like.

Turret board builds are fun...i've done a bunch. My website has pics of turret, eyelet, and terminal strip builds :)

Is a turret staking tool really necessary to do turrets? Or could one just use a hammer and nail?

You don't have to get one of those crazy $200 staking tools like you see in the big catalogs. You can get the inexpensive one that Hoffman Amps ( http://www.el34world.com ) sells and it works fine. I own one, and I've used the expensive kind at places I worked before and the cheap one holds its own just fine compared to the one that costs 10 times as much.

In other words.... a hammer and nail probably wouldn't work so well. You might be able to get away with doing eyelets that way... maybe... but turrets wouldn't turn out at all; they'd get all bent up for sure. You need to have a tool that's hollowed-out to fit over the whole turret.

i really like this guys stuff. for simple fuzz circuits, there pretty cool, and they look killer to boot. the idea of the spectre i find appealling- a kind of creepy sounding surfdrive- sounds perfect for The Cramps!
and this construction method seems like it would be really easy to whip out simple circuits because there are less overall solder points. looks like i might have to give it a try...!

Aesthetically they look great inside and out, I especially love the graphics on the hammered finish.

If only I wasn't so lazy I would try to do something like that.
