I'm not 100% sure, but I think that Captain wrote somwhere that he is using linear pots for Fuzz and for Volume knobs.
You think you can find his quote to confirm pot taper info?

BTW, this odd HB was not limited to 3 units, I don't know how many was made, possibly one only, or whole bunch
Here it is:
The Captain wrote: There are more circuit tweaks on the Sun Face. The only circuit change on the first run of GE Head Buzz's to that of an original Arbiter Fuzz Face was the use of a linear taper pot on the Volume control over the logarithmic type. The linear taper gives a slightly brighter tone as the Volume control is pulled back making the pedal less woolly.
The Current SI version has the same linear Volume pot taper and a 6K8 resistor on Q2's collector over the stock 8K2. The gives it a hair more volume.

The Head Buzz is a straight on the rocks replica. No bells or whistles. Its just supposed to sound like one of these.

Nice! :)

Do you have the e-cap values for the odd one?

I think it's pretty much regular pedal.
But only for Japan...

Oh, and a little text from David who described this pedal

I could correct it, but I'm afraid of Tim's head buzz ;)

Also I decided to stop digging in direct DAM replicas after last year scam issues. I moved them all from my website and I would do it here as well, but let's just say, I don't know how ;)

Sorry DiscoFreq.. it's just that you never know on the big ol' web.
I hope it's OK that I copied the pics here ?
And.. how come you didn't post them for us.. [ Image ]
It's ok as long as it doens't happen systematically
I'm adding new pages almost every day,
I can't post them all here
If you want to see what's new, check this page (or subscribe to the RSS feed of it ):

Tell me you made those Dam head buzz gutshots, and I'll remove them from fsb.

Why should we link to the effectdb? There is nothing there but systematically stolen pictures from other sites.
And you keep on publishing links to wrong schematics that have been corrected on fsb for years now.

Wow Johan, good to know how you think about Effects Database...

I just said this because the pages are updated with better pictures from time to time, so it's better to link to them then to take the current pictures as you won't notice the added/replaced pictures (which could be more helpful here).

Yes, a lot of pictures come from eBay and other places (usually manufacturers etc.), otherwise a lot of them wouldn't be online anymore AT ALL. There are also quite a lot of pedals that you can ONLY find on Effects Database. I'm also working on a way to add more of my own pictures (and other info) of the pedals I have.

I didn't add any new lists of schematics in years as I still have to work on all file links (especially the way they're organized in the database) and upload/scan LOTS of paperwork that I have myself. If there was a good way to link to the latest info here then I could do that, but forums are hard to follow and sites with schematics often disappear, reorganize their links, don't allow links, don't allow hosting them (even after the site is gone),... If someone wants to help with that (or is ok with submitting his own files) that would be great, but I'm already using all my spare time for the site.

There's a link to FSB on the "links > forums" page and I refer people to this forum VERY often. For files I now have a field to link to their original site (as well as the file or page itself), but I don't think there are links to files hosted here (I can't check all topics on all forums and link to the files shown there).

Just a question... I've built two times a PNP Head Buzz based on the last layout posted by Sinner, flipping the 22uF, soldering three 0,68uF in parallel for the input cap and mounting a trimpot on Q2 collector. I've tested various transistor (both Si and Ge), but the voltages on Q2 are pretty strange, infact I'm not able to going down 7.8v on the collector. Also, the voltages on Q1 are weird :slap:
Is the layout verified?

Why You're using three caps in parallel?!
It affects sound in wrong way. Use just one, 0.68uF should be enough for fuzz face.
What gains/leackage You're using?

There's no trimpots on sinners layouts, so maybe You did something wrong. Layouts looks ok.

thank you beedotman... I've solved changing the crap fuzz pot with a fresh Alpha 1kB

I've bought and soldered a 2,2uF radial and ordered some NOS 2,2uF axial ;)

This is my provisional combo, measured with an Atlas DCA55:

Thompson 65T1 for Q1 (hFE 75 @0.15mA)
Mullard OC44 for Q2 (hFE 123 @0.00mA)

The resistance of trimpot on Q2 C is 8.16k @4,4V

Tomorrow I'll experiment with some other Mullards OCxx and 2N1307. In the meanwhile I've ordered this set from Smallbear:
