Hi all,
Just moved to Canada from UK. Wondering where do you usually get the best priced parts from over here?
Searched ebay.ca but it seems everything being sold is from USA so the postage bumps up the prices. Everything also seems far more expensive than UK. Is that the case?
Thanks guys

Where in Canada are you?

Small Bear and Mouser are popular choices even though they're both out of the states.

Digi-Key and Mouser are great. Free shipping on orders over 200 and often you get your package the next day.

Welcome to the valley.

Electrosonic is Canadian, also, you might consider visiting Lee's Electronic's website. They're in Vancouver, I'm not sure if they ship or not.

I live in Canada and mouser has been a good experience. Shipping is $20 for orders less than 200 but the parts arrived in two days and no custom charges.

Pretty fair trade off for me.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

However, apart from online sources, I was mainly looking for actual stores where i could go and buy components in Ottawa. I have been told about Source, Princes Auto, Active parts but none of these seem to carry basic things like even potentiometers..Any place i missed out on?

Hi,

The 'major' parts shops in town that I use are Active on Merivale Rd.; Reset Electronics on Baxter Rd. (out by Ikea) and Gervais Electronics on Industrial Ave. All three shops are distributors for Mode Electronics and can usually get parts in within a week or two if they aren't already on the shelf. If you're doing a major order, you're probably better off doing the online thing but if your in a pinch for a common resistor, cap or transistor, these places should do the trick.

Hope that helps.

I just moved to Montreal. If anyone wants to tell me where the local parts shops are I'm all ears. :thumbsup

It's getting harder to find local shops that carries any good stock , active [ here in Winnipeg ]
is on the high side price wise if they even have it , a few common limited things
sometimes the music store repair shops , although it's sometimes a " brand " name price

I need to find a good supplier for cases & switches , Digikey works well for me for average parts

I'm in Toronto and when local shops don't have what I need I pretty much go with Tayda (taydaelectronics.com), as they have a ton of stuff at just about the cheapest around. Shipping might not always be super fast though...

Otherwise I've had success with Small Bear and Mouser too.

Welcome to Canada! I was in Ottawa on the weekend. Beautiful city. You could be one of the lucky ones who gets to ice-skate to work in the winter!
