Why no battery snap? I wonder if this is a special order or if they all come that way.

They all come that way, he only puts battery snaps in on special request, it's an enviromental thing and I can see why, it's about time people started moving away from them... even if I still like having the option.soulsonic wrote:Why no battery snap? You can see that he put glue in place to keep the pots from spinning if they loosen but if he wants to make it rugged why not just have a PCB with board-mounted pots. Accomplishes the same task much more quickly and consistently.

Information
I frequent;y find that board mounted pots and sockets tend to get broken away from the board with use. I find it's much better to fit the controls and sockets to the case using expansion washers (the crinkled ones), and use soft wire (not solid core) to connect to the PCB. I usually mount the PCB on plastic stand-off pillars. I get no units returned for mechanical problems!Whoismarykelly wrote:You can see that he put glue in place to keep the pots from spinning if they loosen but if he wants to make it rugged why not just have a PCB with board-mounted pots. That glue jobs too funny! If your really that concerned about the pots shifting, don't break off that extra tab and drill the extra hole. It amazes me nobody does that.

Yeah, like the glue's going to hold it...phibes wrote:That glue jobs too funny! If your really that concerned about the pots shifting, don't break off that extra tab and drill the extra hole. It amazes me nobody does that.

Agreed. Hot glue is nice for a temporary hold while something else more permanent sets up. But on its own, it doesn't seem to give a very strong bond.DougH wrote:Yeah, like the glue's going to hold it...phibes wrote:That glue jobs too funny! I've used it a few times to keep longer wire runs tucked into a corner or whatever, but beyond that it isn't road-worthy.

I'd rather see a mess of glue like that than red Loctite. FWIW red Loctite (262) is designed to be a permanent bond on fasteners 3/4" and up and only removable with a great deal of heat if it's applied properly. I recall seeing one builder's ad bragging about using it. I wanted to reach out through the inernet and slap him. Guaranteed destruction and damage if anyone ever had to replace a part in it.

but, the blue stuff ain't bad! those toothy washers are great, too. i picked up a ton of them for 1/4 in jacks, but i still have to find some other sizes.jb351 wrote:I'd rather see a mess of glue like that than red Loctite. I agree .. hot glue is pretty useless if you want something held permanently and reliably.culturejam wrote:Agreed. Hot glue is nice for a temporary hold while something else more permanent sets up. I'd much rather see some judicious use of loctite, and use it myself... you just have to be sensible about the type and amount you use.
Loctite comes in a range of types, and it's designed to keep fasteners of all sizes from coming loose.

any schematics or layouts for this one yet?

That pedal was just piquing my interest. I'm guessing another FF variant, though that's a pure guess. (The parts count seems to align more that way than any Bazz Fuss variant I've seen.)

Information
It looks like the same PCB as the Groundsweel Overdrive, which is two Electras in series, minus the clipping diodes, and with the addition of sag.
So it could be an Electra + a Bazz, or something like that.

yup, probably Electra minus diodes into bazz fuss.
