Nice. I actually thought about this after I posted.earthtonesaudio wrote:If you take the LED outside the feedback loop (i.e. output of the op-amp -> resistor -> LED -> ground) it will work.

I once designed a sort of overdrive/compressor using that technique. It works quite well if you find the right type of LEDs...culturejam wrote:Nice. I was thinking that typical chap diffused LEDs usually have the lowest forward voltage and would work best. I'll have to give it a try tonight or over the next few days.

^^ Diffused low current red LEDs are the ones I went for, with a fairly reactive LDR for the gain reduction in the opamp...
Why not use a 386 chip instead of the bazz fuzz? They provide enough current to light the LDR well, with a variable resistor in series with the LEDs you'll get some control over the depth of the pitch bending and levels of the clipping...

Is this layout verified? My build doesn't produce verb sound...well just to confirm before i started my trouble shooting.rocklander wrote:had a quick crack (unverified) at a layout too (hope that's okay).. also 1590a.. and it's off the first schematic..

Ok, someone somewhere, i think it was guitarmageddon, posted a mod to krank up the delaytime, but I cant freakin find it
Was it just double the value of tha timepot, or am i completely off here?

As with just about any delay, the longer the delay time, the more noisy/lo-fi the repeats are.audioguy wrote:Any negative impact on the overall sound?Kunfuz wrote:Edit without editbutton: use a 50K pot (not 10K) for the time! Thanks guitarmageddon Ben!

I love where this is going, guys! I might have to try that vero layout from a page back.
Great circuit CJ! If you end up with any more boards for it I'm definitely game.

Right right- I was just curious how crunchy it got- but in the time that it took me to type this, I could have swapped the pots and found out myself!culturejam wrote:As with just about any delay, the longer the delay time, the more noisy/lo-fi the repeats are.audioguy wrote:Any negative impact on the overall sound?Kunfuz wrote:Edit without editbutton: use a 50K pot (not 10K) for the time! Seiche wrote:"oh noes, my crap-fi delay has noisy repeats. who would've thought?"
Last week I went to the reharshals with my ad9 (a reissue) instead of the crap-fi and, well, there is some difference in the quality of sound. On the plus side we should say that, since this effect works with super short repeats the quality is quite good thought.
By the way, it is a little off topic but, I have a ring modulator with oscilations and a wite noise generator that is not so good for playing the blues.... maybe I sould switch the caps to better quality ones, I don't know....
