I will at some point.. They are just so damn expensive out there right now and I got them so cheep so I have to think hard about what I would charge. I have enough to go into business making v1 and v2 muffs for ever LOL. I will probably kull off some and bang them out here in the next couple of weeks. Just have to figure out how much $'s I don't want to rape the community but I do need to feed the family.

stay tuned

Those aren't that uncommon, but high gain batches are. Skreddy explains his search in a few threads here. Most of the ones I've used were ballpark 100 hfe. That's not to say you can't build a low-gain Muff, but gain testing would still be a good starting point.

I would like to register my interest in purchasing some of these - how many will likely be determined by the price...

I would be happy if most of those I got were 300 hfe or higher, personally.

BC549C transistors will easily give you this much gain, I used 4 in a Big Muff build and they measured around 600 Hfe and worked perfectly, the bonus is that the BC549C is a low noise Transistor...... :thumbsup

Big bummer went to pick up the balance this morning and the guy only had 600 not 4000 WTF! I took them.... Just tested with a fluke DMM as my sencore's meter mysteriously died :fp:

I pulled 50 at random 10x 10x10x10x10 after mixing the bag at each 10 pulled the gains came out to be:

52% <90hfe
2% 90<X<100hfe
28% 100<X<200hfe
10% 300<X<400hfe
6% 500<X<680hfe

I think I have to keep them and sort for my use sorry....

Pfft, I'd take the low gainers off your hand if nobody has interest in those.

through 100 and things got a little better. If you were brakeing these up into gain buckets what would the ranges be?.. I thnk this 100-200 needs to be separated further. will try to test noise later

For gain buckets I'd go under 150, 150-300, and 300+

That would cover you for most uses without getting OCD about it.
