And from what I've read, that's a Marshall Guv'nor with a single tone control.coldcraft wrote:the angry charlie is a crunch box, so this is probably some variation on that.
Not sure with the Charlie Brown - saw a gut shot in the video on PGS and didn't see an IC, but will have to look again.

It's definitely a crunch box. The Sweet Tea is listed on his website as an 808 and an Angry Charlie in one enclosure. In another thread, it looks like it has been proven that the Angry Charlie side is a Crunch Box (built on one of madbean's layouts, no less):bucksears wrote:And from what I've read, that's a Marshall Guv'nor with a single tone control.coldcraft wrote:the angry charlie is a crunch box, so this is probably some variation on that.

actually, I think I mis-spoke. I believe I had deduced previously that the Charlie Brown was a BSIAB, and the Angry Charlie is a Crunchbox as previously said. All-American is a 4 knob Rat and the Morning Glory is a KOT/Bluesbreaker clone.
all clones.
all clones.

Ah, good call, I misspoke too. I glanced too quickly and didn't realize we were talking about two different pedals (Angry Charlie and Charlie Brown). To echo Coldcraft, I believe it has been deduced (but not verified but gutshot or schematic publicly that I know of) that the Charlie Brown is a BSIAB. Angry Charlie has been CONFIRMED to be the Crunch Box though.

Guv'nor with a single tone control? Now where I have heard that before?bucksears wrote:And from what I've read, that's a Marshall Guv'nor with a single tone control.

I know this is an old thread but I believe the Charlie Brown is not a BSIAB clone. There are only three fets in the CB if they are even fets. Looks like it may be more along the lines of the Wampler Plexu Drive.Barcode wrote:To echo Coldcraft, I believe it has been deduced (but not verified but gutshot or schematic publicly that I know of) that the Charlie Brown is a BSIAB.

I am aware of that but he has more recently claimed it is not a BSIAB. Looking at the gut shotI don't think it is.Barcode wrote:It is 100% confirmed to be a BSIAB clone. Up until around 2010 Josh was even using the circuit board layouts from BSIAB DIY projects in his builds.

Hi everybody,
I'm looking for Charlie Brown/BSIAB schematic for study it and try to build.
could anybody help me
thanks in advance for info

3 BS170
some 22nF caps
one diode near to the 1st BS170
47K and 10nF near to the TONE pot
2 2n2 in the end
That's a Box of Rock without the booster and some minor changes
some 22nF caps
one diode near to the 1st BS170
47K and 10nF near to the TONE pot
2 2n2 in the end
That's a Box of Rock without the booster and some minor changes

That means it's mostly a Distortron then, right?Güero 2.0 wrote:3 BS170

Does the gain control crackle? That should be another dead giveaway.

No - I meant if the Charlie Brown specifically crackles as the gain is adjusted. I know all of those Vex pedals do.Güero 2.0 wrote:Only if you want https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?t=3971MoonWatcher wrote:Does the gain control crackle?
If not, there are other options to not having that noise, like using something more like the AMZ Mosfet Booster. Put a big cap in series with the gain pot (cap connects to mosfet's source), and put a 5k1 resistor parallel to it. This assumes there's a 5k1 on the drain.

I'd already read up on Martin's CNO, shortly after he started the thread on it (when it was only like 2 pages!). But thanks.Güero 2.0 wrote:Please, click here =====> https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?t=3971
I like that he included the CNO in the version 1 Four Banger. I guess it was in the version 2, but there wasn't as much discussion of that one.
Reviving an old thread (as the Charlie Brown is still NOT traced!)
So I took a close look at a pcb shot (picture with values attached), and it does look extremely similar to the dirt section of a Box of Rock, with a couple modified values and an added contour pot.
I don't know much so I might be wrong.
82k, 47k, .1uf and .022uf show the contour pot is probably done like this
And the only other differences seem to be a few resistor values in the first SHO section:
- 2k7 instead of the usual 5k1 at the drain (that would mean less gain right?)
- An electro might connect the first BS170 source to the gain pot, and there's another 2k7 close, so that could be a way to get rid of the noise (crackle) (like Guero said) (I dont really know what I'm talking about, just guessing here)
What I cant figure out at the moment:
- 2x 100ks at the bottom
- 62k by the blue electro
- 150r below the 2x 22nf
- the blue electro
- the yellow cap at the top
