Baja B K Butler Tube Driver [documentation]
Hi,tip142 wrote:Hi,you have to check the connection of the wires to the pot ,one is going to ground.....
I finally found the mistake: pratically a trace is missing on top layer. I post a pic of new incomplete project to indicate missing trace that i have seen on original pcb.
Anyway i thank you all for support
So could anyone post some info for me (vero/schematic) to convert the Tube Driver from AC to DC?
I've successfully removed the transformer and have adjusted a few components to bring the modern one closer to the 80s Chandler one too. The final piece of the puzzle is getting rid of the hum.
Any help gratefully received..!

Hi! Years ago I built a GGG tube driver (useless), now after years being unused I found this thread. I'm thinking about replacing the pcb and build this one but I'm afraid with noise, the GGG has a terrible noise and lots of gain wich makes the gain pot usable to its quarter and then lots of shit noise and gain. I've a 12V AC 1A for the pedal wich is suitable for this as the enclosure knobs tube socket etc... I think it is but I will ask anyways. Is it worth to replace the pcb? I've read the 15 pages but there's any recomendation? (Wiring, placing the components, shcheme,12AX7/AT7, ways to reduce noise, grounding,...).
Thanks to all for your time! I'm leaving a pic about the GGG pedal.

Project files are missing from Bajaman's first post because they were all hosted on Photobucket, and now they're unavailable.
Is there a possibility of a FSB-hosted re-upload? Thanks in advance!

Thanks again, Baja! Btw, here's the schematic, I hope I'm uploading the correct one:

Also, I'm not sure what was on the GeneralGuitarGadgets page, but now there's a circuit very much like this one... The differences I've spotted so far are a bit different signal path and less filtering in the power supply, but the basic topology is that of a BK Butler Tube Driver (12VAC and all): - Rocket Roll

Since the interconnects-marked layout was also on Photobucket, here's a quick sketch I've made, hope it's correct:
The decal Bajaman has provided is 10cm x 15.5 cm.
Since all of these dimensions are close enough, any/all should work.
But I'm not sure whether one can just buy an enclosure that would work, or you have to DIY it as well.
Original enclosure dimensions - one source states they're 6.8 x 4.1 x 3.5 inches, the other states they're 7.0 x 4.0 x 3.0 inches (as per Amazon product description and one of the user manuals). The decal Bajaman has provided is 10cm x 15.5 cm.

OK, third time's the charm. Here are all of the interconnects...
all of the diodes (1N4007, 1N4148, 2V5 zener) are oriented wrong on Bajaman's layout. Capacitors and LED's are oriented as they should be, but reverse the diodes. Use this picture as a guide:
Do try this pedal with a 5751 tube. Bear in mind before you decide to build it - it compresses to Hell and back. It may be your cup of tea, it may be not. If you're playing guitar in a power trio, it might be just what the doctor ordered. If you're fighting for sonic space - it cuts the mids and compresses quite a lot.
...or, in the words and pictures of another builder...

Does anyone have eagle files or gerber files for this PCB ? My PCB router software can only create PCB router instructions from these files types and not from images as posted here.
Thanks,

Have you not tried Sprint Layout V6.0 ? You can import bitmap images into this pcb drawing program and trace them easily - it also generates gerber and excillon drill filesMy PCB router software can only create PCB router instructions from these files types and not from images as posted here

You will love it - highly recommendedThanks Baja! I will try Sprint Layout V6.0.
I also use Abacom's sPlan 7.0 for all my schematic drawings now - great company in Germany making affordable and so easy to use programs.
For the last 7 years or so all my pcb layouts have been done with Sprint

Hello all, it's my first post on this forum,
I'm using 12AX7 and i want to lower the gain without changing the tube. Should i lower the plate resistor from 47K to 10K (for bringing the gain and the output impedance of the tube down, similar to 12AU7) or should i increase the input resistor/lower the drive pot value for the inverting amplifier?
I'm also thinking of adding plate bypass capacitor for the fizz.
Has anyone tried these changes?
Best regards.

Hello.. I'd like to see the 12v transformer wiring connection. I wonder how do you connect the wires from the power plug to the transformer including paralel resistor an capasitor to the output jack, and the wiring to the chasis.. thank you.. great work... I really have doubt on this..
Hello folks..
First of all I want to say thank you to the great Baja and for his works shared with us... I really appreciate it...
I'm only a medicine student who love to build pedal but I have not any knowledge about using software like eagle or other ones... So I need gently a Gerber file of this project for order on jlcpcb... I want to recreate the Gilmour sound with this pedal... And I want a professional pcb... Thank you I'm. Advance for your help
