That bar is embossed on the bottom of tube, just on the glass, also these tubes exist with color dot opposite to one of anodesbajaman wrote:maybe I am blind, but i have never been able to see the bar on the bottom of the tube

I just bought myself a set of 4 X 6N17B-V tubes off eBay, cost me about $18.00 Au all up......
Going to have a go at building this little project....
Bajaman, do you still stock PCBs for this project?......

Okay, so my 4 Russian 6N17B-V valves arrived in the post at about 8 am today, now all I need are a set of PCBs and all the other bits to make one of these mini tube overdrive pedals.........

I've already built the full sized version so I'm interested to see how my build goes, as it just so happens I've got an enclosure that already has most of what I need minus a circuit board, so I'm going to see if I can come up with a suitable vero/stripboard layout.....stay tuned......

Okay, I managed to build a veroboard version of this project and it worked first time, had to draw a schematic based on the PCB, not sure if I got it right but it does seem to work, haven't tried it out with a guitar yet though......
Bajaman, would you be able to post the schematic for us by any chance?, I'm interested in checking to see if I've got the biasing right, one tube stage seems to be biasing-up lower than the other with the result of asymmetrical clipping, I did some voltage measurements of the tube voltages with respect to circuit ground and here's what I'm getting in my build, do these sound about right to you?:
I'm using a 9V AC / 800mA plugpack adaptor to power my build.....
+V Supply = +11.93V
-V Supply = -11.60V
First Triode Stage:
Cathode = -11.60V
Grid = -10.64V
Anode -1.69V
Second Triode Stage:
Cathode =-11.60V
Grid =10.63V
Anode = -6.33V
All other voltages look normal to me.......

Hey, it's best to post questions in the relevant thread, it notifies people who have posted in the thread.
I merged the message... Maybe DrNomis will see this, he's gone the same route:
But he hasn't been online the last year.
