Apparently the issues started around 16th of November. Didn't have the time to parse the server logs, yet. The PHP documentation website had similar issues, so I'm starting to see conspiracies [smilie=a_whyme.gif].

On 7 December, around 16:55 UTC, response was VERY slow, on the order of 100 seconds and more for the landing page and for every subsequent page (login, etc.) I eventually got a 504 error after 4 or 5 pages and gave up. It's fine now with normal response times at 20:00 UTC.

Interesting. Still had no time to parse the logs, but I replaced the included captcha with hCaptcha (a couple of days ago), and, since then, the server is a lot more relaxed CPU, load, and disk transfer-wise. Also memory, but the improvement is not as significant. Which seems to point to the registration form as the cause for the server load :hmmm:
I tested the registration with a throwaway e-mail and it seems to be working, although I can imagine folks with motor impairments having issues with hCaptcha. Oh, well...
The most striking improvement is the disk transfer, which plummeted to more reasonable values.
