Shin-Ei FZ-1A static issue, repair advice please!

Hi,

I recently purchased a vintage Shin-Ei FZ-1A fuzz pedal. It works however there is significant back ground static noise while the pedal is engaged. I basically have no experience repairing pedals however I do have a soldering iron and a meter and figured it maybe something simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I am not sure how to post pictures but here is a link to one that is exactly like mine.

interesting. doesn't look like an exact copy of Maestro, looks like a third plactic can transistor? And two clipping diodes?
