I was wondering if there were any sources for reverse engineering pickups? I've seen this page a bunch with it's table of vintage Fender pickup specs: https://www.guitarhq.com/pickups.html, but I was wondering if there were any resources like that for other pickups? I'm aware of this forum, but it's less focused on specs of existing pickups: https://music-electronics-forum.com/for ... kup-makers

Things like, bobbin dimensions, magnet type, coil wire type, number of turns, etc... I basically want a FreeStompBoxes for pickups, but I'll settle for whatever I can get. haha

It's a big subject. That forum used to be very active long time ago, I don't know how it is these days. As I remember there was a lot of info mostly fender oriented on www.tdpri.com but you have to dig for it. And there is youtube.

Look at this forum also, plenty of info over there.

Look in US Patents, you can find DiMarzio's and others, a lot to read.

If you don't have Gauss meter, with arduino and hall sensor A1302 you can make decent one. Even better one with AD22151.

I've mentioned youtube. Unfortunately these days, there are lot of "content creators" that make videos just for views, not for sharing knowledge. On the other hand there are videos like this one. Look at other videos on his channel, they are useful.

Do we have have pickup sub forum on freestompboxes? I know David form SGD pickups is member here, maybe someone else from that field is too.

Sometimes pickup is damaged, need rewinding and there is no info available, not even DCR, you don't know how many turns you need or how much the bobbin can take. This PICKUP COIL ESTIMATOR is handy for situations like that.

Holy shit! I haven't been on the Guitar Nuts forum in decades. I forgot it existed! I read that forum a bunch when I was first learning guitar wiring and mods! It looks like they do have some pickup info. :thumbsup

I didn't see one. Which is why I posted here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
