If you are a new member, especially if you have 0 posts in your name, this is how you safeguard your profile from deletion:
  • Customize your profile in a human way, complete your profile
  • Post a hello message here before anything else.
  • Refrain from post with no content, like "great idea" or "thanks so much" -- rather use the thanks button
  • Give thanks if you read stuff that's useful: it increases the evaluation of the thread
  • Be human: humor, irony, self-relativism and vulnerability are the key -- except if your are as good looking and intelligent as me!
AI Bots have become advanced, and copy phrases from earlier in threads into a new message. Activation of new accounts is done manually by your humble servant, which may delay things a bit.

https://www.stopforumspam.com/search allows you to look for spammers under usernames, email, etc...

If something goes wrong with artificial intelligence, it's still because of human stupidity.

My wife accuses me of being an annoying spam bot... will that influence my standing on the forum? Can I sell my wife thru this board? Or buy someone else's wife? Any investment tips in a good wife?
I only give negativ feedback and y'all love it!

I think everyone agrees we need to see some gut shots first, take some measurements, do some tracing and simulation, you know, the whole she-bang.
Mind you, this whole process might be intrusive and destroy the resale value... :secret:

Forum performance is terrible, i know... all due to a massive amount of guest sessions... but these are actually bots. Closing down access for non-logged in users seems like a no brainer, but this does not help. This is maxxing out our CPU -- we might have to move to installing cloudflare

Ok, I tried a number of things to get rid of these leechy bots... at a certain point more than 5000 guests online.
Nothing seemed to work really, until I banned some ip ranges from these guests profiles...

47.82.*
47.79.*
47.128.*
47.238.*
4.151.*.*
114.119.*.*

I does seem to have made a difference, although I still see ip's from these ranges in the gues ip listings.. But the board is much faster now. Best to keep an eye on the 'users online' section at the bottom of the home page. If you see an extraordinary amount of guests and the board is slow, you know why.

Still at this time, already +100 guests, but cpu is down to 40%

I am almost certain that some legitimate users are affected...

Update
  • Account activation is back to email confirmation
  • New accounts (0 post) will have to have their first post approved by you humble servant...
  • We still have a bunch of crawlers and bots crawling around, maybe of them are legit: Google, but also e.g. a bot that check uptime from the hosting control panel. I did however kick out Jeff Bezos, Ali Baby and some forty odd other cpu robbers...
The problem with the world today is not that there is too much AI, it's the same problem it's always been: not enough human intelligence... ;-)
