Haven't been here in a while and a search didn't turn anything up. I don't really know the story other than it's supposed to be a cranked Hiwatt ala Townshend and only 100 were made. Seems kinda cool

Because the Circuit Analysis area is for topics with gutshots, schematic or technical info.
If there's none of those.. it goes to another section until there's some circuit info.

Hi

as far as I know this pedal is based up on the SFT. So it my guess is that there are only a few parts changes that make a SFT to a WIIO. Would be nice if Nicholas could provide some info about it, as it is a realy limited run and we probably won't be able to put our hands on it. And as they don't plan zu continue it it would be nice to continue it for our own purpose. ;):D

Cheers
Helge

It's actually based upon Pete Townshend's Hiwatt sound from Live at Leeds.
WIIO ---> WHO

I'm guessing it's similar to their recent run of ROG amp-in-a-box pedals (SFT-Ampeg SVT, DLS-JCM800 and now WIIO-Hiwatt DR103)

Yeah, I know that. Not the first time the brought us something Hiwattish->Hyper Pak. This in mind does not mean they are similar to the typical ROG emulation, which are pretty close to the preamp schems of the real amp. As far as I can judge with my limited skills DLS and SFT are not that close to the real amps constructionwise, but of course soundwise.

Here's a 'gut-shot' of a friends. He wouldn't let me have a better crack at it.

To my ears it sounded like a thicker DLS with more happening in the lower-mids and less top end. We A-B'd the two pedals and it was very easy in the lower gain settings to get them to sound identical.

Hi,

oh man, come on, I beg you to beg him to crack it further up!;):D At least you haven't to desolder anything, just unmount every screw and pull it apart. This is such a rare beast it would be a pitty not to have some further gutshots.

Cheers

so is this thing supposed to be like a hiwatt, or like live at leeds? cuz everybody knows townsend used a superfuzz AND a hiwatt at leeds. so i think they would be two very different sounds, no?

Nic based it on his own Hiwatt and SG combo. Heard clips of him A/B'ing the pedal vs the cranked amp and it was pretty convincing. The WIIO has a TON of gain on tap. With the gain turned all the way down you're still getting a pretty overdriven sound.

From what I hear, Townshend often didn't use the Superfuzz, as it often did not work.

You can compare that to my shot of the SFT:
