Bass fuzz

their website

some gutshots here

This pedal seems really similar to the acetone fuzz master fm-2.

I am having trouble making out the transistor values on gutshots, they seem strange to me.
Also the values of the big red caps. I think all electrolytics are 10µF.

Reason: Topic renamed and moved. Possible guitar fuzz too?!

The one on the left is 2SK30A. The others are 2SC828A. Only the bold part actually appears.

More difficult indeed...

Transistors are 2SC828A-R. Configuration and footswitches let me suspect, that it could be a clone of the Ibanez - Standard Fuzz:

Schematic for the Ibanez - Standard Fuzz:

What a sophisticated new technical master stroke from the solder-jockey scene.

Missed the "R" parameter on that one... :slap: I've been looking what it stands for : 180 < Hfe < 360...

Thanks guys for getting on this so fast! I'm excited to order some parts and try this circuit out.

I wasn't expecting too much innovation as this is the first and only pedal from this manufacturer, but The reports are that this effect works great for stoner/doomy Bass so I'm interested to try it out.

hFE stands for the small signal Forward Current Gain (from wikipedia). The values will affect the overall gain for each stage, so if you want a close result for your build this parameter is important indeed.

This dude makes awesome amplifiers - that is his bread and butter, not pedals. They are affordable, p2p, hand wired monster tube amps. So cut him some slack before breaking out the torches.

FWIW I just fixed up an Ibanez Standard fuzz for a guy and the thing seemed real flimsy compared to what this Big Spider looks like. Wooden side walls rock. I couldn't give a hoot if it's a clone - I know which one I'd be gigging with...

I guess you can make one for yourself fairly easily, as strong and reliable as a pedal can be WITHOUT the wooden sides which doesn't bring anything soundwise...

This ain't the subject at all. We don't even talk about his pedal ablilities, but about the very circuit he's been locking into these wooden-edged enclosures. And for an amp builder, as Jack Deville already mentionned here, developing a pedal is way more cost effective than developing an amplifier. Especially if the design already exists...

some more gutshots down the page on talkbass http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthrea ... der&page=5 I can sort of see the writing on the red caps, but I can't make it out.

apprently they now have trim pots in them too.

Excess leads, burnt insulation, looks like a big fat bridge between two resistors. That's just atrocious.

larger panasonic looks like 104 to me.
Big help I know.

I hope that wiring is not stock. Looks like someone tried to rewire it with radio shack 22 solid. Wretch.

And this is what the builder said about the gut shots already posted:
That is a particularly dirty gut shot IMHO, and they generally look way nicer.

Wow, cool.... carbon comp mojo resistors.
And look at the pcb: it´s double sided
This must be much better than the Ibanez - Standard Fuzz because the Ibanez had only a single-sided pcb.

Why is he bending the transistors like that?

Maybe he toasted a couple and now wants to be on the safe side...I don't know...

Few years later but got the tone cap values for this and it's a the Standard Wau Fuzz values with 120nF rather than the 100nF in Analog guru (?) schematic online. 3.3nF and 22nF caps are the same.
