What's wrong with NSC boxes?

I really, dislike the little screws, the way they brush finish and etch. (It's like pot metal- zamack)
I prefer to not have the radiused edges, especially where the box halves meet.

Their 1590BB style has big screws, but the heads are small. The holes on the bottom are poorly countersunk. Just looks cheap.

I know many fine buildes use them. Catalinbread, Barber, EH etc.......

I agree on the NSC boxes. I'm a lanky 6'4" giant and my size 16 Doc Martins Steel Toes have dented/warped the shit out of those boxes before but only in a live setting of rocking the fuck out. I use em for stuff I use in a home setting though with no problems. If I know I'm gonna beat the shit outta it, I use a Hammond. The NCS boxes aren't terrible but I'm surprised how many booteekers use em and then in the description they say some dumb shit like 'super he-man tough cast' box.

You'd be a good candidate for the 4Site boxes, then. They have the big screws, and aren't radiused that much. And none of the potmetal sort of look to them, either.

The only thing that you have to watch out for is the extra metal in the corners for the bigger screws. It's more rectangular than rounded. If you drill your footswitch hole too close to the bottom and try to drop a battery under it, things can get kind of challenging.

Make that two things. The bottom has a much more snug fit. If you aren't tidy about how you put your finishes on the box, it can be fun getting the bottom on and off.

I don't mind the NSC boxes that much, as long as the screws with the box aren't messed up. I've had them with heads that weren't round, and bits of metal that didn't get punched out properly for the driver head. My local HW store has screws with the right thread pitch, but a non-Phillips type head. That gets to be interesting when the screwdriver slips...

...As long as the screws are good though, I just start with a jeweler's number 1 and then move on to a bigger standard Phillips.
