Feel free to move this to the noob section I picked up a couple of enclosed Neutrick input jacks like so..
There are three lugs on each side. When no plug is inserted there is continuity between each pair of lugs. When the plug is inserted, one side of the lugs makes TRS contact, the other side is not touching anything.
Sooooo, the $1m question. Which side should I use?
Use right (on your photo) contacts to pass signal to/from plug to your board in/out. Left (on your photo) contacts usually used for example for shorting input of amp to ground when no plug is inserted to avoid hum.

Looking at the picture, it'll be the terminals on the right-hand side - the ones that connect to tip, ring and sleeve of the inserted plug. The other contacts can be used in many ways in different circuits - to feed loudspeakers if the socket is for headphones, or to feed a signal to an adjacent socket in the case of an "insert" jack (look it up!), or to mute an input with no jack inserted.
"Why is it humming?" "Because it doesn't know the words!"
Hi i would just like to know, which one should go for tip? ring? sleeve? Thank you so much.
The one closest to the silver hexagonal shaped end,is the sleeve connection, the next one is the ring connection, and the next one after that is the tip connection....
